True.
It would be another cookie cutter SHORT box with blue glass.
It would be more appropriate in Tyler, where it might not be the tallest building, and just barely the second tallest building, but Tyler could use a little blue.
The Woodlands would opt for an elegant emerald green tower on The Great Canal of the Woodlands Waterway, anchored by the largest Bvlgari store in the Western Hemisphere.
But this is Austin, at its most generic.

I’m glad this has its own thread, so we can separate out our righteous contempt from the rest of the forum.

I don't mind the design. I'm just not happy it's not at least twice as tall. 3 times would have been better. Wasted opportunity, in my opinion.

I'm more worried about the sides not shown in this rendering. It looks like it has an exposed parking garage on the North side and if the West side is built up to the property line we may get another big old blank wall.

That garage actually isn't too horrible. And maybe I'm just being hopeful, but it looks like the tower steps back ever so slightly from the edge of the property. The tower doesn't seem to be flush with the face of the garage levels. It also looks like they're showing sky shining through the facade on that side. You can see those columns on that facade, and there is some contrast between them and what looks like glass. So...hopefully, it won't be blank. It also looks like the mesh over the garage matches what they used on the main roof below the roof line.

If you look closely at the rendering, the south side lighting wraps around the west side of the building. At the top, you can see lighting wrap around the north side also. I would guess that there is a string of light down the northwest side of the building connecting the two. Long story short, it's likely not a blank wall.

I was looking through FAA permits earlier, and saw this:

https://oeaaa.faa.gov/oeaaa/external...78047924&row=4
Quote:
600W 5th is a 17 story Core and Shell building that consists of a building lobby, parking levels, future tenant levels, and a mechanical penthouse. Height of the building is 230' with no antenna towers. Skin is comprised of metal screening, curtain wall, solid metal panels and a concrete wall.

That doesn't necessarily mean that any the walls will go up the entire side of the building though.

Agree, the north side is likely not a blank wall since it sits on an alley.

They had the potential to provide a better connection to the emerging office district at Seaholm and the entertainment of West 6th and totally whiffed it. There's not even ground floor retail?!

That's disgraceful!
Horizon Bank is opting to be a bad neighbor. Nobody likes a bad neighbor.
