Union Square 2

Noticed more equipment on site and hoarding along the eastern side, getting ready to demo the building on site. Finally a new tower start, been a couple months.

Think it's a decent project, glad to see more development in and around 1st, becoming its own little hub.

This is one of those weird times where I wish the facade wasn't entirely glass. I was hoping for the same colouring on this project as is on its older brother.

Always love to see a construction site starting up.
Especially encouraging given the present tentative economic climate in the city/province.
Would have liked to see this one a little taller to differentiate it more from it's brother/sister but at least it's not an identical twin.

My vote goes to love it. Not really because of the design of the high rise portion but because it looks like the plan includes a cafe facing the park to the west, complete with patio. If Boxwood in Central Memorial Park is any indication, this should really help bring street life to the park all day long. The fact that the podium looks to include a second floor of office use is also a big strength as having 9-5 workers in the building will help 1st continue to evolve into a unique hub in the Beltline. Looking forward to seeing this rise!

The street front looks like it will be a nice extension of the existing tower - should add some more retail to the area. The cafe facing the park looks pretty damn nice. I can see myself going there in the summer. Hopefully it can be a nice alternative to the Starbucks on the corner of 13th and 1st.

They landscaping on the median of 1st street looks really nice as well... is that actually happening?

Oh, and I guess there's a tower attached to all that too! I like it. Seems like a logical extension of the first one. I like that it doesn't look totally identical.

Bet the people on the south side of US1 will be disappointed o lose all that sunlight and their view. Tower looks ok, nothing ground breaking, but more density where we need it. Hopefully when they finish with this they can stop messing around with that park and just leave it open!

I like it because we need as many new units as possible to help deal with our housing / rental crunch. Would I buy into it? Hell no. Most of these new condos are nothing more than investor bait. Hardly places someone would want to call home. Maybe places like Ezra are better for that.

Yeah some more retail here, 11th ave place, the new Marriott, all adds up. Park Point includes a bit of retail too I believe. If only the proposal on the Chocolate side and the PBA one of the west side get going.

Latest on this one is that the developer is not going ahead with the second tower at this point and will be requesting a one-year extension to the ‘must commence by’ February 2017 date.

Did they get a BP? you can get an extension for sure, though it's not cheap.

It's really too bad about this one, they tore down that little park they built (which was great for food trucks, though was likely not really used aside from that) and looked to be gearing up for construction. Should be an easy one to get going, the parkade is already built.

I think they did.

With the 1st Street Corridor Improvement project kicking off in a couple of weeks this neighborhood is poised to attract new development, businesses and more residents to the area.

The construction tender is out and ITC is the general contractor. It will start sometime in the second half of this year.

^Wow. Gotta say I'm a little shocked at the amount of residential that continues to proceed. Will this be condo or rental ?

Wish we could jump start Cidex West End Towers.

One look at population projections for this city and you will see why.

It is rental and the new name for it is Underwood Tower. The developer wants to distance themselves from Union Square 1.
