This is the view of the construction site from George Street West:
And this is the view along Springdale Street:
This will be the view of Springdale Street from the building. Hopefully these buildings will be freshened up as a result:
This is the view from New Gower Street, which curves around about 25% of the building:
And this is the view from Hamilton Avenue, which curves around an additional 25% of the building:
And one interesting thing about this building is that it will rise above some of the oldest heritage buildings on Water Street. This little bundle of buildings has been isolated from the main bulk of Water Street and hasn't received as much attention as a result. Hopefully this building will help bring more people to this part of town:

^^^^^ Great pictures SignalHillHiker! I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished product here. I too would love to see this area developed and densified. This will give St. John's a more modern metropolitan look while preserving the heritage look of downtown east-end.... best of both worlds!

I completely agree! and this type of thing will set us apart from other cities, getting the best of both worlds and giving us an advantage over cities such as Halifax which will start to just blend in to other North American cities as it continues to just have these developments all over their city.
Some of the buildings down on Springdale Street adjacent to Fortis are downright beautiful, some of the forgotten heritage buildings of the city. It's going to be an interesting mix of old and new down that way, that's for sure
(Honestly, generally between 5:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. Although I work virtually from home, I still work on Toronto time. So I LOVE having HOURS to myself in the mornings before I start work at 10 a.m. or 10:30 a.m.)

This building is supposed to be 12 floors in that location? That's a significant addition!
Fortis Place is the one on the left, looks like they are working on the 4th floor now. It's roof elevation should be about 10 m or more higher than the main roof of 351 which is in the foreground.
Yeah, I'm excited. It'll be interesting to compare the views from Shea Heights and Signal Hill, one emphasizing heritage, the other modernity.
I think the next 5-6 years will be very exciting times for development in St. John's, especially after being stagnant for so many years. This development (along with 351 Water) will redefine this area and will make for some really nice photos...

I can't wait to see Deacon, Fortis, 351, Cabot, the Delta... all in one area. I hope the addition of these new office buildings revitalize the west side of downtown. As of now, once you hit the service station, I find get notably greasier as you continue to head west...
I agree with you both, it will be great to see - and the west end of downtown needs some help. It just doesn't have the density it needs to feel lived-in and useful. So the more of these empty spaces (like Deacon) that are filled in, the better.
