Very nice! I believe this is the early 70's version of this song. Someone posted a link to an older clip from the 60's, but it was black & white and pretty grainy. This one is great quality...catchy tune and very well done for the time!!

YouTube video

The video is great , thanks for posting. If you read the info about this video on the website, whoever posted this was not complimentary of Regina at all. It had to be someone from Winnipeg or Saskatoon. How do we go about changing the video description to something like I love Regina the early years?

Or someone from Regina who moved away, or currently resides there and does not enjoy it...

As far as changing the video description, I believe only the person who posted it, can change it.

[QUOTE=Grumpy Goat;4867992] first quiz, what was the 1st. interchange in Regina

The 1st interchange I remember is the cloverleaf on the south end of Albert St going to Weyburn.

Also, the ramp at the north end of Albert going to Saskatoon.

I see that it's the 1 year anniversary of this thread...I had a few more ideas pop in to my head last week, so it's a good time to list them.
I remember a couple of restaurants opening up in the mid-80's called Mother's Restaurant, and they had a lounge side called Father's Lounge. Some of this is a bit foggy but I recall one location was Park Street at Victoria Avenue...and the other one at Albert and 5th Avenue north. I don't think they lasted that long under that name...and then they may have both become Bonny and Clyde's locations. Does that sound right?

I do know that Albert and 5th housed the Luxembourg Pub for awhile (early 90's) and then it was transformed (in the Dave Dunn tradition) to the Last Straw Pub around '94 or '95...going strong ever since.

As for Park and Vic, Moxie's moved in there around '88 or '89 and had a long run...a brief stint as Mano's about 3 years ago...and now Bocado's for the last couple of years (very good food there BTW).

Any differing memories...feel free to correct!

Regina Memories

I came across this thread and it brought smiles to my face. Lovely memories as a read through them from my childhood.

Here are a few of my own of what it used to be and what it is now:

A liquor store at the Golden Mile - before the mall was enclosed-where the movie theatres are now
The fun house on Broad street- that was fun going there
Double Decker Restaurant - south Albert - Melrose Place now (great burgers)
Fun and Games arcade - south Albert -Skara Restaurant is now
Debbie's Icecream parlour- south Robins Donuts is now (near Skara)
Minds Eye Arcade - during the initial few years of Southland Mall
Galaxy 3 Arcade - approx 11th Ave and Rose Street
Palisade Park Arcade - parking lot of north Canadian Tire
Guys and Dolls Arcade/Pool Hall - Victoria Avenue (Lou used to own it)
Oriental Bowl Restaurant - Albert and 7th Avenue (empty lot now)
Danny Donuts - Albert St across from Dewdney Avenue McDonalds
5th Avenue Tea Room - Fish and chips specialist

I remember when the bypass was two lanes. We would come into town on Arcola Ave. and have to stop. Never seemed like there was much traffic on it though.

I remeber Delbert's and the keg. they were the place to go on a Friday night. What street was Delbert's on? I'm trying to remember but can't for the life of me.

while we are on the bars subject...

I remember The Factory (and the endless names changes in its last few years of survival) AND i remember before it was the Factory it was at one time an underage club called ROCK CITY and before that it was also a bar but I cant remember the name as I wasn't old enough but for some reason i have the name Studio 54 or something like that in my head but I'm probably wrong

I remember the old Gabbos in the basement of the old Presutti's Tomatoes across from the SGI tower.

I remember when Soho's used to be called Manhattans (its never been the same again) and you could wait in line downstairs inside and have a drink and play pool before getting in upstairs AND that you could ply beach volleyball in their backyard and watch games from the 2nd floor deck wich was later deemed UNSAFE before it changed names to NEW YORX and the SOHO's

and lastly I remember Lauderdales inside the Regina Inn!

Yaa! I thought there used to be two Keg locations: one in the south, close to the new location, and another in the warehouse area which closed down long ago! (or is my alzheimer in my old age confusing me? )

Yeah, you're right, there was one 8th Ave & Hamilton in this building.

If you zoom in on the red band around the building you can still see The Keg's advertisements of Hot Wings & Sizzling Steaks.

I'm not sure if it was mentioned before but who remembers the drive-through Off Sale attached to Checker's? That would have been pretty handy. The Landmark Inn got demolished when I was 18 though so I never got a chance to utilize the drive through.

Even before Checkers there was a huge bar in the Landmark called The Sportsman's Den with an offsale. I was never in there but I heard it was pretty rough. That was in the day when you weren't even allowed to have recorded music in a bar and could not walk around with your drink in your hand. Sounds like fun. All bars (or beverage rooms as they were officially called) had to be in hotels. It was called "The Den" for short. Along with the "Vag" (Vagabond - now the Travelodge) and the "Pig" (Pig & Whistle - now the West Harvest) they comprises the south end bar scene in the 70's.

The Den was eventually split into Checkers and the more upscale Bogart's around 1980.

Ahhh the good ole days. I used to be a bouncer at Checkers and Lauderdales. I totally forgot about the drive-thru offsale there. Lauderdales had a walk-up offsale facing Broad St. We got some pretty shady characters coming through those doors at all hours. We used to sell a lot of Molson Black Ice.

That's cool! I thought the Vagabond Inn name was dead & I wouldn't get any hits on Google, but a quick search proved me wrong.

Still alive and well in California.

Interesting stuff. So I assume you lived somewhere south in order to remember all the south end bars?

Great Story on Exhibition Stadium in this video:
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/saskatchewa...gina-barn.html

Lots of memories in that place:

My first big rock concert - April Wine with Heart as the opening act.

1974 - Tiger Williams climbing more than half way up the seats to fight with fans. - there was no glass around the penalty boxes or benches if you can believe it. I was at this game and it was completely totally wild:
Friday, April 19, after almost 47 minutes of play, the Broncos decided to leave their bench led by Dave “Tiger” Williams. Using their hockey sticks as weapons, he led them into the stands to settle a few matters with some spectators. Approximately 30 minutes later, both teams were escorted to their dressing rooms by Regina's police. When the game resumed, the Bronco's bench was surrounded by a ring of city police and there was no further scoring. Regina went on to down Swift Current 6-2 at the Stadium.
http://www.reginapatshistory.com/200...ng-summer.html

The old organ playing up in the rafters.

The ancient old ice cleaning machine - I thought it was magic when I was a kid.

The old scoreboard with moving hands clock. See below.

So many more...

Just today, I was in the Golden Mile and pointed out to my wife where Pedelli's was ( I probably last had it when I was about 8 around 1983; there was also a bakery in the Golden Mile, and I used to go with my dad to Book and Briar when he was buying new pipe tobacco. I think you could smoke up right in store.

Don's Photo was crammed into a little shop on Vic and McIntyre. We also had Happy Shopper in the Whitmore Park shopping centre (now Mac's) and strip mall by the uni (became Jim Dandy's, now Mac's, but that Happy Shopper was originally at the east end of the mall). Also a CIBC in that mall--Now Subway/Mormons, I think where HP used to be.

Most cherished was this little comic book/used book store in the mall on Gordon, now where Boston Pizza is. The shop was on the west side of the mall. As a 7 or 8 year old, it was my intro to commercial heartbreak: every other week my mom took my brother sister and me...then one week, it was just closed. REGINA'S BEEN BREAKING MY HEART EVERY OTHER WEEK SINCE!

Oh, and what about that music t-shirt, water pipe, zippo lighter, switchblade, incense-smelling, etc. store that used to be on the Scarth St. Mall?
