Which project? Vidorra? Not really, in terms of highrise real estate construction, this about normal or faster than normal in terms of announcing to construction. Also, Vidorra also had to wait for city council votes for certains like taxes and a sound wall along the rail line that passes directly behind the site. They needed approval of that and it took time. They also had to go through additional design changes because of the historical design committee.

It's taken less than two years from time of announcement to tome of construction. There are other people in other cities who would wish some of their projects only took less than 2 years - 2 years to get from announcement to construction as opposed to four or five years or even longer.

None of these actually held up the project. Everything was in place last year. They had to wait until they sold 60% of the units. They actually officially broke ground in December and haven't done much since then. I would say the 7-8 month delay for a crane is slower than normal.

Wow, there are now seven cranes around downtown alone and a possible crane (I didn't get such a good look) rising around Third street and Jefferson. Does anyone know what's going on there?

I counted 23 completed floors, so 11 more to go. The building at 130.1 m when finished, will almost be as tall as the Marriott (134.4 m w/ out the spires). But because of it's width, the building seems much bigger to me in person.

You're right, the Hyatt is a monster in person.

On another topic, with the Vidorra crane going up, I think we need a dedicated Vidorra thread in the Texas/Southcentral forum or the Highrise construction forum. If one doesn't already exist. What do you guys think.

Have you ever ventured downtown on a Friday or Saturday night? Heck, even on a Tuesday night downtown is still active.

Someone mentioned this before... but the riverwalk always has a decent crowd... and the riverwalk actually pulls folks off of sidewalks so they are not visible unless you venture down there.
