N.S. woman killed in head-on collision

A 60-year-old woman from Glace Bay was killed Saturday evening in a head-on collision on Route 105 near South Haven, on Cape Breton Island.

The crash happened at about 6 p.m., according to RCMP at Baddeck, N.S.

A vehicle crossed the road's centre line and struck a second vehicle. The victim, Geraldine O'Handley, was a passenger in the second vehicle.

Police did not provide details on any injuries sustained by the driver of O'Handley's vehicle or the lone occupant of the vehicle that crossed the centre line.

Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash

Rain Linked to 3 Outer Ring accidents - http://www.cbc.ca/canada/newfoundlan...-road-903.html

There's always at least one accident on the Outer Ring during a downpour. People just drive way to fast for the conditions.

So since I've clearly had too much free-time on my hands lately I've started a roundabout map for the Maritimes (and Nfld if there is any). I'm still working on adding ones I know about but if theres any in your area that you know of, especially if they are new, please just bring them to my attention.

Roundabout Map on Google Maps

For the purposes of the map red means planned/proposed, yellow means under construction, and green means open to traffic flow. Placemarks with a dot signify one lane roundabouts, and ones without a dot signify multi-lane roundabouts. I'm open to adding collaborators if anyone wants to help out.

And just out of curiousity are the two traffic circles on Wheeler Blvd in Moncton considered roundabouts?

They are usually referred to as "traffic circles" and have merge lanes. The Hall's Creek circle has traffic merging at high speeds (60-70 km/hr).

"Local rules" tend to apply when using these circles. The causeway traffic circle in particular has variable (and informal) rules about entering the circle, depending on traffic volume. ie- if the traffic is backed up, cars in the circle don't always have the right of way.

In short, I have no friggin' idea but I would include them on your list in any event.

east bound exit 24 on the 104 has a roundabout that is now open in stallarton.

as for proposed, all the exits on the antigonish by pass are suppose to be using roundabouts.

So they're just like Armdale. There's laws but people only obey them if the other people are.

Got to love it when yield signs are just "suggestive"

There is at least one roundabout in Moncton due in the next year at the intersection of Killam, Collishaw, and Purdy? Avenues.

There are two (?) in Dieppe being built as we speak. One at the intersection of Acadie Avenue and Thibodeau St, and another along Gauvin Road but I don't remember which cross street.

Is that actually U/C or merely planned? I've been avoiding that end of town since they tore up Horesman.

The traffic and roadwork is atrocious Myles, but you should take a drive up............you wouldn't recognize the Ryan/Horsman area any more. On top of it all, try and visualize a new francophone school in the farmers field next to the roundabout.

anyway, construction is well advanced...........the roadbed and most of the curbing and sidewalks are done. It will be ready in 3-4 weeks.

Fredericton has 1 underconstruction with more planned.

The one under construction will be opening within a few weeks. Gleaner article

The traffic circle will be located at Brookside Drive-Reynolds Street-West Hills Crossing. This is just north of Brookside Mall for nonlocals. (on the North side of the river)

There are quite a few new roundabouts on PEI lately. For your map:

Charlottetown:
-Riverside Drive (bypass) at Exhibition Drive (complete)
-Riverside Drive at Walker Drive (complete)
-Mount Edward Road at Allen Street (complete)
and just a note, the Belvedere roundabout is actually at the University entrance, not the avenue. On the map it's called "perimeter road."

Travellers Rest:
-Veteran's Highway (route 2) at Read Drive

O'Leary:
-Western Road (route 2) at O'Leary Road

Montague:
-Wood Islands Rd (route 4) at Valleyfield Road

Dizzy enough?!

I think I have them all added in now.

It's hard to see zoomed out but there's nice clumps in Halifax, Charr'town, Ormocto, and Moncton which is a good sign since those are some of the larger population centres in the Maritimes.

The consecutive roundabouts in Oromocto are almost ridiculous

There's a big one at the intersection of Route 15 and the TCH going to the Confederation Bridge at Port Elgin.

There was a second roundabout proposed for the George St interchange of Hwy 125 (Exit 8), though I'm not sure if it's still in the plans.
