From what I was seeing, attendances were pretty similar between Moncton and SJ, so my guess is that given the choice, wwe decided to stay with SJ, as the rental fees are probably a lot lower than the one at the Avenir Centre.

And there will be people who travel from Moncton to Saint John to see the WWE.
- 160 events of varying size.
- 340,000 patrons in the first year
- $75 million in direct investment in the neighbourhood directly attributable to the Avenir Centre (so far)
Maniscalco should be a pretty big draw for the Avenir Centre. He's a big name in comics and I would guess must be one of the most popular touring comedy shows right now along with Jerry Seinfeld.
Jim Gaffigan also announced he’s coming to Moncton, January 18, but venue not decided yet. Have to think that’s at Avenir too as he’s a pretty big name.
He performed at ScotiaBank Centre back in May 2017, so good chance he'll play arenas in 2020. Halifax, Saint John, and St-John's are also on the schedule.
Bad timing I guess to announce 2 comic shows with an on sale date so close to each other(Gaffigan will probably be next week).
Im sure both gig will sell well in the end, but one will definitely lack of first weekend hype.
I heard some chatter about the Canadian women's national hockey team playing a game or two at the Avenir in December.
Can anyone substantiate? Surely those are slam-dunk sellouts in this town.
With the collapse of the women's league, the national program has been trying to play more exhibition hockey to keep the team sharp in advance of the world championships, which are in Halifax.
Sportnet doesn't mention locations but does mention Canada playing an exhibition series against the US in December. So maybe we'll get one of these exhibition games.

Maybe I'm alone in this but I really wish the Avenir had a digital screen/marquee somewhere outside the facility advertising upcoming acts. I realize most of these are posted online anyways but I've always liked the feeling when you drive by an arena in a big city and you see the upcoming events on the screen. Even Harbour Station has one of these, and the coliseum had a shitty one.
Great for out of towners staying at hotels nearby who might make a last minute decision and wouldnt necessarily know where to look for a schedule.

As long as it's not "blinding" and gaudy like the one at the Casino, that thing is hideous. I was at the MH winery this summer and the only thing I could see is that blinking monstrosity when I looked down the hill.
Funny you should say that.
When they built the hotel (I can't remember the name) that is rlocated ight next door to the casino, the hotel could only get a permit for a itty bitty electronic sign.
The casino, however, got a permit for that light show out front.
Very odd how one building can only have a tiny sign because, by golly, those things are distracting and bright and gawdy. But the building next door can have one many times bigger, because, well, I don't know.

Based on building size? I don't know but I hate them, they are WAY too bright, daytime is fine but at night certain adverts are blinding and distracting (and they are just ugly).
I have no idea what the sign regs are. Maybe if I was better informed, I could make some sense of it.
I look at that huge McDonald's sign at Magnetic Hill, which I don't have a problem with, then consider that Cabela's was turned dow for their own big-ass sign next to their former store. Now this may be comparing apples with pineapples, as the McD's sign is tall, but not so big, while Cabela's proposed sign was quite large indeed, but not nearly as high.
Nevertheless, to a semi-uninformed observer like me, there seems to be little logic to what signs get approved and rejected. PS, neither of these signs are/were illuminated LED structures.

This is a five game, five city tournament. The participating cities are Moncton, Hartford, Vancouver, Victoria and Anaheim. We're in pretty good company here!
I would personally be more interested in attending this than the Canada/Russia junior game.
