It would be very interesting to see numbers from other European cities, as its hard to find.
Toronto, which you were referencing, has 2.8 million in the city proper. And the city proper is always what people are referring to on here when they talk about "Toronto murders".

So that's still quite a bit larger than Stockholm metro at 2.3 million.

Judging by the figures cited on here, Stockholm's murder tally seems quite high to me, for a northern European city. This is also true of Malmo BTW.

Another 3 shootings yesterday resulting in 2 dead and another two wounded.

Shooting related murders are now at 11 in Stockholm and the total number (knife, beatings etc) is somewhere between 20 - 25.

The record for murders with a firearm was 2017 with 19 for the full year.

20-25 murders out of a population of just over 2 million, is that right?

Shootings (fatal and non-fatal) are fairly common in Canada's capital city of Ottawa as well.

Not as much in other cities, including Montreal and Vancouver which are the 2nd and 3rd biggest metros in the country - quite a bit bigger than Ottawa.

OK so that's a murder rate over one year of around 1.75 or 2 per 100,000.

Still very low by global standards but a bit higher than we would expect for a city in the Nordics.

For the Canadian cities I know best, in recent years Toronto has been around 2.5-3 per 100,000, Ottawa around 1.5-2 per 100,000, and Montreal generally below 1 per 100,000.

Chicago is just O.C. I don't care if the issues are isolated to one specific neighborhood/community, those figures/stats are inexcusable. The whole city should stage an intervention.

It's definitely inexcusable, but it's also been this way for the past 55 years. So there is a fatigue factor involved for caring about it. Year after year after year after year after year after year after decade after decade after decade, the gang-bangers just mow each other down with what should be alarming regularity, but it's so goddamn regular that it's not even slightly alarming at all, just the status quo; same shit, different day. And ~2% of the time an innocent life is tragically lost in the crossfire. The city wrings its hands for several days, and the newspapers are filled with op-eds about what we must do as a city to stop the killings, and then the killers just keep right on killing.

It's not that people aren't trying to reduce the violence in Chicago, it's just that nothing really seems to work. Ever. For over a half fucking century now.
