How much could Edmonton actually make from playing host to the NHL playoffs?

Not Vegas. For the love of God, not Vegas. They should pick the cities with the lowest number of active and new Covid cases.

That doesn't really mater to the NHL, though. They'll pick Vegas for the lack of working and health requirements (and also for casinos and things).

Ultimately this has the potential to spread positivity to areas with a low number of cases so maybe It's not the most prudent thing to base the selection of the city with the most isolated amount of coronavirus. The Albertan premier suggests up to a hundred people coming and going every game.

This idea to host in cities and existing rinks makes no sense to me. The US is full of abandoned corporate /warehouse campuses built in middle of no where. These could be adapted to heritage style games with the players housed in temporary conditions instead of five star conditions. Think about the pandemic and not just about the players, owners and the minimal economic boom of hosting these muted playoffs. You know Trudeau would use all his powers to allow every exemptions to the hosts too.

It's hard to take an organization seriously when they put their players and staff at risk for more freedom. So far, every other major league seem to have picked Florida, the worst offender when it comes to ignoring health care professional's advice.Very disappointing to see.

They are pitching Edmonton for players and Jasper for families.

I believe that they would take over much or all of the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge.

Makes sense to me.

Why does Edmonton always pitch Jasper when Banff is pretty much the same length of drive away?

Interesting never thought that would be true.

As we have seen with Djokovic's tennis tournament, the idea that young, rich professional athletes will isolate for the entire duration is ludicrous. So, why make them resist such temptations in a city like Vegas? It's like being on a diet and going to a buffet restaurant.

I had no idea both were relatively equidistant from Edmonton.

As to the why Jasper? I would assume because Banff is more associated with Calgary.

Watching young athletes ruin their sports by being unable to hunker down would at least be good for some lulz.

Jasper is much quieter and far less touristy.

Djokovic's tournament wasn't about young athletes not obeying - Djokovic himself is an anti-vaxxer that doesn't believe in the virus. In fact, one of the younger stars on the circuit, Kyrgios, was the one most against Djokovic's tournament during and after it took place.

Djokovic is basically the young male athlete equivalent of a Karen posting to a mom's Facebook group.

The old rumour online is that his quack naturopath diagnosed his gluten intolerance by holding up a piece of bread to his stomach.

Gretzky's greatest assist yet - convincing enough members of the HOF committee that Kevin Lowe is Hall of Fame - worthy!

As a Sens fan rooting for Alfredsson's induction, I'm pissed!

With Carbonneau last year and Lowe this year, it's only a matter of time before Matt Stajan gets his hall of fame nod!
