United Airlines moving its headquarters to the Willis Tower

United Airlines is expected to announce Monday it is moving its headquarters to the Willis Tower, which currently houses the airline's new operations center.

Corporate staff is moving from 77 W. Wacker to 200,000 square feet in the landmark tower in a lease that will extend until 2028. Once complete, United will occupy approximately 25 percent of the building.

United should purchase naming rights. . . "United Tower" sounds much stronger than "Willis."

Anyone have infor on the length of Willis contract? Any thoughts?

What will happen to the current United Tower? Will that be renamed?
Personally I'd like to see Willis renamed back to Sears, but I very much doubt that will ever officially happen.

It's interesting, because from that angle the tower looks relatively slender, whereas in reality it is a beast.

Don't have info on future of United Bldg. (77 W Wacker). Was it ever officially re-named, or was it just referred to as UB because of the tenant?

As you stated: Sears is history.

According to the links below it is officially United Building. Which, as a thread drift, is one of my favourite and best looking buildings in Chicago that isn't a supertall.

^ That top section of the east antenna is in the shop for maintenance. Hopefully it's back in a few months.

When antennas are obsolete will that mean they'll eventually dismantle them altogether and there'll be nothing above the current roof fro then on...

I hope not. The antennas complete the building.

It is pretty amazing to think that the Willis Tower is now 40 years old. With no taller buildings in the works it will remain the tallest in Chicago for a minimum of 45 years and quite possibly 50 years. In 50 years Chicago went from Wrigley Building being the talles scraper to the Willis Tower. Unless something gets going soon, Willis will be reigning supreme for 50 years. Wow.

A roof height of over 1400' can be difficult to beat. What's really amazing is that no other building in America has been built taller than the sears since it went up.
