Pickup trucks and lonely highways. That's an image of Texas so strong, it helped lure Toyota to San Antonio to build a truck manufacturing plant.

But it also makes San Antonio a tough place to work if you're Lydia Kelly, who has an unenviable job title: Bicycle/Pedestrian Transportation Planner.

Kelly works for the Metropolitan Planning Organization, which threw the fifth annual Walk & Roll event Saturday at the Botanical Gardens to preach the benefits of walking, bicycling and mass transit. The San Antonio Express-News helped sponsor the event.
