If people are willing to pay for premium housing I don't know you can hold that against the developer... they're simply providing what the market wants.

Fair enough if you think that public housing is substandard, but that's a completely separate issue. Dumping on True North Square won't fix that problem.

If anything it would help because the surface lot didn't generate a whole lot of tax revenue. TNS will generate millions in taxes every year.

Funny enough one of the letters to the editor in the Free Press today said basically the same thing...

The 1,100$/month suites are out of my price range too, but it's not the developer's job to make it accessible to everyone, it's their job to make money

Where did they 1100/month figure come from? Is rental information available somewhere? Is that for a basic suite?

1100 / month is pretty normal these days for something that's new/renovated. Actually kind of cheap.

I was in a renovated 1 bedroom apartment 8 years ago and it cost 900/month.

^ Sticker shock is a factor in Winnipeg... it was not even 20 years ago that a friend of mine had a nice bachelor suite in West Broadway for about $200 a month. If you're used to that then $1100 seems like a king's ransom.

My sister was in a 2 bedroom apartment in south St. Vital up until a few months ago. Newer build, maybe a couple years old if that. Can't remember the exact figure, but it was somewhere around $1400-$1500 / month.

If we're comparing vs. the 1990's then yes this is astronomical price increase compared to then!

Was just referencing the letter, 1,100$ is the amount the writer chose to use.. I imagine the prices at TNS will be considerably higher

I will wager $1300 for the one suite that is on the 7th floor with no view and is 600sqft. I bet an average price of $2000 a month, but only because I'm a bit of a gambler.

Ya there's nothing wrong with "expensive" apartments – they're not a charity, and we don't have affordable unit requirements like BC.

Man, those steel workers have balls of "steel" for walking around that high up on those girders. When I went for the site tour last Friday the construction elevator was sketchy as hell...and that was in an enclosed, safe environment.

Glad there are people in the world to do that kind of work.

You may not be used to cheering for a winning sports franchise

It seems these things work fine in winning cities, and we do love our hockey more than most. Should be neat.

This seems to go a bit far... Cops pull over whoever they can whenever, and the chipmans don't wear mink coats carrying canes to smack officers into shape with...

??? It's their private property, they can gear it towards whatever customer they want. Since it's wildly expensive, they'lllose money not leasing it to those capable of renting.

It won't be cheap, but it won't be out of line with trends.

But you didn't actually say why anyone would actually opt for that environment instead of a living room or pub

I was saying this as a good thing. More reasons to get people out having fun the better. And if TN is making more money off of it - good for them. This development speaks volumes, if this is what the city gets for supporting the Jets and TN, amazing. Let’s have them do more (wth “our” money).

A few close-up photos of the ped bridge connection over Hargrave, from this evening. When you walk right up close to this corner, it's amazing how close together the buildings look!! And the skywalk will only make this corner even tighter to walk through.

It's minor nitpicking, the project looks fantastic from street level.

last one is a pano, slightly distorted

^The east side of the street will be a bit tight but the west side will really open up once the fence is gone.
