The Historic and Design Review Commission consists of eleven (11) members who reside in the City of San Antonio and are appointed by the city council. They review all projects related to exterior changes to properties that are designated as Historic as either an individual landmark or as part of a historic district, located within one of six (6) River Improvement Overlay (RIO) districts (including the Riverwalk), located within a Viewshed Protection district, or that are publicly-owned (i. e. libraries, parks, firestations, etc.).

The commission serves to assist in an advisory capacity to the City of San Antonio Directors of Planning, Parks and Recreation, Building Inspections, Code Compliance, Public Works, Arts and Cultural Affairs, and other appropriate heads of municipal departments, in accordance with Section 49 of the City Charter, and to the city manager.

Aren't these "talks" the City and Developer are having similar to the "talks" after the first proposal of the GH tower,? and after the talks ended up with the wall?
If they are, I'm assuming the City would have the final word, IF they really wanted to get involved.

If I'm not mistaken, the HDRC was againt the demolition of the Walgreens building on Houston, but the developer argued that it would be too expensive to use the existing structure. In their case, the original intent was to do that, but they requested demolition after starting and seeing the problems.

In this case, the building doesn't seem like it is worth saving in any way. However, I don't know its historical significance. It certainly doesn't appear to be a good example of anything.

Well, I bet if they incorporate the building into the design, it could pass. But, it just looks so bad, they would need to renovate the exterior as well, making it a completely different building to begin with.

Looks like Douglas Architects incorporated the Fish Market into the design, it doesn't look so bad and the Alamo Savings is to go. Let's hope this gets better chances for approval, they are actually going to plead their case on Wednesday.

We also finally get to see the West Elevation, thank goodness it looks this way because I really thought it was going to be an ugly brick wall.

I like those overhangs on the roof. This could be a really nice building.

Just a gut feeling. The HDRC keeps denying it and there is no way they will allow for demolition.

I feel totally opposite, they just aren't going to be able to have that base. They are going to have to keep both of those "historical" structures, and build on top of those. We're going to have to just keep our fingers crossed, and hope that the developer can find some way around this.
