It has so much detail, especially the upper 1/4 of the tower. I think it should be a few floors higher, (8-10), for the simple reason it's neighbors will hide some of the best parts of the tower!

Basically, almost the entire site has been cleared, and the Hy's steakhouse was being demolished earlier today.

Effortless! To tell you the truth.
Ground breaking may have already begun.
I think after the ATCO was taken down they did not need to flatten the land or anything, they started digging. When I was there 2 weeks back, the location where ATCO and Japanese Village was at, it was a pit already. Maybe Canterra can confirm with another photo update soon.

Also Height revisions have taken place. The Top of Roof is actually 149m and top of spire(the highest point) is now 170m.

I agree with Bob1954, another 8 - 10 floors and it would really stand out. But I suppose the shadow nazis would kill that idea.

Bo, there are small pits at those two locations but the real excavation has not started yet but as you can see the piles are being drilled in preparation.
Meanwhile Hy's is totally levelled except the basement wall in the middle and the Diane Paul Gallery/former Peters & Co. building on 4th is slowly being chipped away and should be gone by next week.

w00t! Excavation underway!

So they lowered the height to spire by 3 metres? It's not enough to really make me complain, but why bother? Who was complaining?

Sometimes small material changes or just last minute engineering plans can change the height of buildings. This is a small reduction most likely a change in the thickness of concrete.

Great Character building!

I think Hy's will re-locate, it's too much of a landmark to just die off.

Cool design with the two spires running up the entire building. Would be a great design if they added a few more floors.

Is there going to be any delay between demolition and shoring, or are they going to get right in the ground?

Looking good guys.
I Can't wait to see this pit begin to deepen up.
Remember this will be 5 floors of underground Parkade.
2 Tower cranes will be used to erect this as usual to normal officetower constructio in Calgary.

Have they started digging and shoring yet? I wonder if this building will be competition for Centennial at all?
