I think some of these people should take a trip to ANY OTHER city where medium and high density development have progressed in downtown (or near downtown) neighbourhoods. They'll note that dense residential development usually includes defacto greenspace around the development, as now there is incentive for walking paths to be built, strips of grass, landscaping, benches, etc. Maybe its a stretch to use Coal Harbour in Vancouver as an example but... imagine something like that on a smaller scale extending from the Forks all up Waterfront Drive, and across to St. Boniface... all walkable.
