^ I gotcha Vis. Heard anything about the height of the new Physical Science bldg.?

The new apt bldg on Dryden has an even address, so I think that means it'll be on the opposite side of the street from the Palms. Thanks for the info.

This is the Physical Sciences building prelim rendering. Start proj. 7/07, finished by fall 2010. Note the glass canopy off of Clark Hall, which is about seven floors. Good economically (facility management and faculty should increase employment numbers with a new building), but in terms of height, a total bust.

Meanwhile, I'm trying to access the board minutes on the city's website, but it-keeps-freezing-UP!

EDIT: Okay, the physSci building is as follows (from the meeting agenda)
-one sub level, five regular floors, and a mechanical penthouse. Boo.

As for the 4-story apartment building, it's a Jagat Sharma design, to have 12 2-bedroom units, and 4 4-bedroom units, laundry and gym space. It is to replace a 3-story, multi-family house.

Sharma loves densing it up. He has a parking garage on Linden near Dryden.

I'm wondering how all that glass is gonna look in that setting. Plus it blocks the 7 story Clark Hall.

Damn Google Maps. it had the address up a block or 2 up the hill. There is one in the residential neighborhood just past it the next street up from Linden going toward the 5 corners on the other side of the road.

^ Gotcha. That dentist must get a ton of work from the Cornell hockey team and the drunks who lost the bar/street fights over the weekend.

Here is an article from the Ithaca Times about the proposed hotel in the West End. It appears that it will be a Marriott.

Yeah, I saw that one. Bryan Chambala doesn't seem to fond of the idea.

Yes, I forgot how a dog park would do so much for the city of Ithaca.
Five stories though. Not bad.

Okay, back to 320 Dryden. I am really quite pissed right now about the NIMBYism here. Just because a house is old doesn't mean it has to be saved. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of decayed houses of that age in upstate, and if she wants to save an old house, than she can go up to Syracuse. Honestly, why does everybody in this city have to stand in the way of development?

Welcome to the club Vis. I think the city has a past time of making developers lives miserable.

Vis, Welcome to the place that held Wal-Mart off for over 10 years, that took 25 plus years to undo the Octopus, that has been talking about that hotel in the West End since the mid to late 80's. Ironically, I wound up in the Florida version of it (Tallahassee) working for the local government to regulate these exact same projects, or at least the ones that in Ithaca would fall in Lansing or past IC.

I guess it relates to affordability. Speaking of...

http://www.theithacajournal.com/apps...WS01/609300340

Hows about a nice mixed income hi-rise across Clinton street from the new parking garage on Cayuga street?

"As municipal and housing authorities try to ameliorate this situation"...

kudos to the writer who decided to use this two-point word. More kudos to the readers that actually know what it means.

Still, 128 units isn't bad. now if Ithaca would actually allow for high density housing, and certain stubborn locals would pull their heads out of their behinds, we might actually see something happen.

I'd like to see it take place, but I still think redeveloping the block on Geneva St across from Immaculate Conception will happen first. Besides, where will the heavy heavy metal bands go to make their albums if that block is knocked down and Pyramid Studios is forced out.

^ I was just trying to figure out what area might be easiest to get the height restriction changed( to 140 feet at least). Where ever that might be near downtown is what works for me.

140 would probably be difficult to pull off. You might get less resistance from only going up 8 or 9 stories than 12 or 13, and have it done a year or two sooner.
