With this ACU annoucement essentially filling up TNS, it will be interesting to finally see where the dust settles with the real estate shake-up this development has caused.. until Wawanesa moves anyway. Hargrave Street Market definitely has a big city vibe to it when I checked it out today.. gorgeous space, nice lighting and perfectly pitched background music playing throughout!

Is that Park Line Coffee (685 Osborne St. S) you're talking about? Have to visit there one day.

I'm going to guess Chaeban Ice Cream.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WINNIPEG, Dec. 19, 2019 - Assiniboine Credit Union (ACU), Manitoba's largest credit union by members, will be moving its downtown branch to True North Square, contributing to Winnipeg's downtown revitalization.
Am I the only one who finds it funny that moving their flagship branch from Main Street to TNS is considered contributing to downtown revitalization?

their branch is pretty awful (hello 2002) so anything is a step in the right direction. will be interesting to see what snaps up that high visibility location, though.

^^^

Who is the main tenant of 200 Main now, Wawa or Assiniboine CC?

Thirty years ago it was the Sport Manitoba building. Really nice addition to downtown back then.

Well, if someone fills their old space after they leave for a new building, then it is a contribution.

^^ Considering ACU made it clear the head office is staying on Main at their current location and only the branch is moving I suspect ACU is filling the space that was their Main St branch with additional space for head office.

I think ACU might be tight on space, necessitating the move out of their banking branch for more office space.

There we go. Sounds like positive growth to me.

Wow, totally missed than announcement, I guess more time on here and less time working is important. That's fantastic that they are opening a branch there and keeping HQ at 200 Main St. (my father retired from ACU 20 yrs ago, but as an FYI he was involved with the original financing Chipman vision of the Moose and of BellMTS Place)

200 Main is losing the branch and Wawanesa, interesting what will fill that space.

The thought of the ACU-TNSE connection that gave rise to the MTS Centre occurred to me when this announcement broke. The Moose, MTS Centre and ultimately the Jets all flowed from that.

I was just about to ask the exact same thing! Maybe they're gonna pay WPS off-duty some more exorbitant sums of money, to sit around with a lawn chair and a K-9, to scare off the looters?

But I would generally agree with rrskylar on this one, I don't think anyone expected TNS to be a major city-wide attraction. Speaking for myself at least, I expected this to be more or less an office/hotel/residential development with a more prominent retail component than what we're used to...basically like Winnipeg Square or Lombard Place but with the retail at grade instead of underground. The fact that a credit union is occupying one of the CRUs is not surprising. What would have been surprising is if they had landed a tenant that wasn't previously downtown.
Apple Store?

When I was there this week there were security guards informally acting as gatekeepers to both the Hargrave market and Liquor Mart corridors.

Hey, weren't you asking about Portage Ave towers a couple of weeks ago? Looks like you got your wish
