Piles aren't "structure rising".

I don't think they have started much of the actual building foundation just yet.

Noticed that the dress shop next to O'Calcutta was vacated recently.

The door has a note from the management company saying that the space was emptied by the landlord for "security reasons".

Weird.

Sure would be nice to see the SW corner of this block worked into a future addition to this redevelopment... can't say I'd miss either of those buildings.

HEY!!!

Ol' Caucutta is a bad building. But the store itself has to be saved!

And moved to Polo Park.

Looks like the developer wants a residential tower on site, probably condominiums.

Yeah, but we could use more parkades and less lots! haha

I like the idea of condos there. Hopefully that goes through.

so one of the leased spaces is from the owner of Pizzeria Gusto who said it was going to be unique to winnipeg which is exciting. The other space leased by a national chain, im really curious to know which chain it is. Cant see it being a moxies, earls, or BP (which would of my guesses) since they already exist within a block of the site. Maybe Cactus Club or something?

Confirmed this morning.

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/bus...169998586.html

Quote:
A highrise condominium tower has been added to the Centrepoint redevelopment project at 311 Portage Ave. in downtown Winnipeg.

A spokesman for Centrepoint's developers -- Longboat Development Corp. and Artis Real Estate Investment Trust -- said a letter of intent has been signed with a Toronto developer to build a condo tower on top of the south end of the development's 450-stall parkade.

Longboat president Scott Stephanson said the height and cost of the new building have yet to be determined. The tower will have up to 140 units, he said, and they'll likely be under 1,000 square feet to keep them more affordable.

Stephanson wouldn't identify the Toronto developer, saying that information will be released within two to three weeks.

Not sure Polo Park would allow a head shop to operate there....

I remember reading a whiel back on here from someone saying that O'calcutta owned the building they operate out of.

Yeah, I remember seeing that too, and that they weren't interested in selling (why would they? Prime location across the street from MTS, and beside the new mega-development.

I was suggesting it would be nice to see the BUILDING go in a future redevelopment, probably years from now. The store need not close, just move.

Sure is great news about a condo tower development. CentrePoint is truly going to be a high-density mixed-use development that will do wonders for the area. Hopefully the MPI lots redevelopment is on the same scale (as some of you are hinting that it is).

The SHED and the Exchange district are both going to grow into two mixed-use (including residential) hubs over the coming years. The SHED feeds off the MTS centre, and the Exchange feeds off the cultural district right beside it. This is terrific as it will get developers looking at 'in between' for possible developments.

Centre Point just tweeted that a website update is coming soon, so look out for that everyone.
