It would make a very strange "dildo", although that isn't my first impression of the design. But somewhat agreeing with aluminum, it does have a certain crudeness to it that I don't like--but a 3-D quality that I do. Can't seem to put my finger on either. I'm 60-40 on that respectively.

If they just don't build the LVT, what fun will it be ?

Anyways, what are the odds of this tower being 'built' in the first place ?

And you missed my point. Stratosphere Tower is irrelevant. It's an observation tower. They don't really get compared with the surrounding architecture of buildings, heightwise. Besides, Stratosphere's design is pretty tame compared with something like Oriental Pearl, or even the Space Needle. I somewhat agree with aluminum that "Crown" will stand out pretty badly amongst the mostly squat standard style of Vegas hotels. I wouldn't go as far as saying it it "ruins" Las Vegas.

Packer and York joining Milam makes a trifecta.

There is now 100% certainty that a 5,000 room hotel/casino will be built on the site, the betting now is on how much different will it be from the original renderings.

[not] Middle-Island -

I think that 'observation tower' is an arbitrary distinction. And in any case, aluminum led with 'structure'.

I said 'comparable structure', theres nothing similar in the designs and heights of LVT and Stratosphere tower.
I totally agree with Lost Island that it won't look much appealing among squat Vegas hotels.

IMO, 'comparable structure' is also an arbitrary distinction. There are arguably no structures in the immediate vicinty of Stratosphere which are comparable to it. It sounds like you two are arguing that it is okay for an obsevation tower to greatly outstrip everything around it, but nothing like a habitable building. What did the Empire State Building look like in 1931 ? The Chrysler a year before ?

Okay, okay its "TRULY GREAT" to have a tall habitable building in Vegas. But that doesn't mean they should build a 'scarecrow' among squat Vegas hotels.

I've come to learn that 'context' in a skyline is pretty irrelevant, rather context at street-level is just about all that matters. With that said, at street level, it won't be much different than just about any other hotel/casino complex: fortress-like and built as islands onto themselves.

Mentioning Stratoshpere Tower in the first place is what was arbitrary. Nice splitting of hairs as usual--to the point everyone forgets the point. I see you don't limit those tactics to politics on SSC...oh joy.

For others who don't know of Lost Island's and my personal history, he's Pavlov's dog to my bell.

Did I traumitize you on SSC so that you had to change your name and seek refuge on another skyscraper site ?

Preach it! And this is manifestly not a tacky building. Excalibur's tacky.

Las Vegas can't make real 'something' until they suffer the 2000' height limit.
