Music stores towndown

I'm trying to remember where and when Records On Wheels first opened and when Music Plus closed for good. What ever happened to Martin (last name escapes me at the moment)?

My family and I flew on Wardair to Hawaii back in 1977. It eventually merged with Canadian Airlines in the late 80s.

It would be great to have direct charters again to Hawaii in the winter. I think some people are getting weary of the all-inclusives of Mexico, Cuba and the Dominican.

I remember it, though not so much at rush hour. Part of the reason it was such a bottleneck was the sharp reverse curve that brought Lewvan into the Pasqua Street alignment.

Wardair was awesome! I flew Wardair (coach) from Toronto to London for only $550. OK, that was in the late 80's, but it was still a good deal then. They served full gourmet meals on real china with sterling silver (airplane sized) utensils and real cloth linens. The service was so good, it became annoying. On an overseas flight, it is nice to sleep a little between midnight and dawn, but they kept coming by offering things! It is no wonder they went bankrupt offering such amazing service for economy prices.

I think the Records on Wheels bus sat in the parking lot of the mall where there is now Giant Tiger, A&W, etc.. on north Albert. I sat quite close to Albert Street I think.

I could be completely off, but that's what I remember. My memory is the late 70's or so

And the southwest corner, where PartSource is now, was the Prairie Inn. I think there was also an Esso station there.

There was Simpsons, originally R.H. Williams, at 11th and Hamilton. Simpsons-Sears operated the catalogue centre at Broad and 4th, which is also where the original clearance centre was. But the Simpsons-Sears joint venture precluded having a full-fledged store in Regina due to the existence of a Simpsons location in the city.

Let's get this thread rolling again... I was thinking about how many different names some of the city's hotels have had... a couple of examples:

Sheraton Centre --> Delta --> The Sands --> Ramada Hotel

Best Western Westwater Inn --> Victoria Inn --> Howard Johnson --> Quality Hotel

Vagabond Motor Inn --> Travelodge Hotel

How about some others?

Was the Whitmore Park Safeway always a Safeway? I want to say it was a Dominion before that, but I might be confusing it with the Dominion that was in the Southland Mall.

I remember when there was a parkade on the corner of Victoria and Hamilton?....I vaguely remember it being demolished too. Not sure what it was for though. The only reason I remember it is because of its spirally nature and the fact that you could climb on to the very highest part of it. Probably not the safest thing to do!

I remember when...

- the RSM had Mega Munch still. And being terrified of it.

- Regina had 3 hospitals.

- Tiki Room skateboards was on Dewdney

- Maxwells/wildslides was the place to be in the summer. I wonder whats going to happen with that space...could do something interesting with that hill.

Mega Munch is still at the RSM.

And the actual waterslides at the Wildslides were sold to the Ochapawace band I believe. Looks like the hill has been losing it's mass since last spring. There is a big chunk missing fron it's west side.
