It is under construction, but the design is a little different and it isn't a Hyatt.

It's been under construction for months already. The building is already out of the ground. The address is 308 Colony St, there's a separate page on this forum about it. Also, it's an apartment building owned by the University of Winnipeg Community Renewal Corporation, not a Hyatt Hotel. There was a news article back that labeled the building wrong which has caused some confusion around this project.

That image is the final design. The images on the UWCRC are old. The Hyatt project on Broadway should start shortly.

Th Hyatt project on Broadway is a conversion isn't it? They're not adding floors or anything?

A new vision for a controversial project:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manit...ment-1.7195178

It seems like the redevelopment of this complex will need to be fairly extensive. I wonder how it will look and function?

It will be demolished and rebuilt as a new building.

Here's the Free Press article on it:

https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/br...onment-to-hope

This articles mentions that the current buildings will be demolished. From the article, "A requests for bids to demolish Centre Village will be issued in the next few weeks. Occupancy is expected in late 2025 to early 2026."

Also, I'm not sure I would call Centre Village a "controversial" project. I work in the non-profit housing sector and pretty much everyone I've talked to agrees that it was a failed project. Hopefully the new building is just a normal apartment building with some good security features.

Thanks for the update! Yes, "controversial" was not the best choice of words on my part.

Glad to see some needed supportive housing will go in it's place.
