SSP: Vancouver Meets!

I've never been to an SSP meet, but I think it could be fun to have a Vancouver one. I have no idea when the last one was...

Weekends, probably Saturday or Sunday morning would likely suit the most people.

We could walk around downtown, take photos, check out u/c projects, get lunch or some beer or something. Although I realize some members here still sit at the kids table

This is basically just testing the waters, is there interest in this?

What dates work for you?

We usually do these in the summer when the weather is better.

I still think we should do an opening of the C-line event and end it with a lunch or bbq event.

I'd be leaning more towards sometime from May-Aug when the weather is better. But I do look forward to the next meet and plan on attending this time!

Could be fun... what's the current expected date of completion?

Yeah, I've got exams in mid-April... but it's not like anyone spends every waking minute studying right? The weather's not that big of a deal... as long as it's not raining but just cold, tough it out Canadians!

Again, I was just testing the waters. There have been many meets in the past, I'm just excited to go to one for once.

One for the opening of the Canadaline would be great. I'd be up for that , even though I'd likely be riding it daily the term after.

Not sure how many would be up for a short-notice meet... but I was thinking of going to the convention centre open house next weekend. After that maybe we could head up and try to get a tour of the Shangri-La (I think they're still doing weekend tours, aren't they?).

I was thinking it would be cool to meet a few of the forumers here and maybe we could organize a bigger meet for the summer at that time. I've been on this forum for a while and still haven't had a chance to ever attend any of the past ones.

As the media is now reporting that the Canada line will be opening on Labour Day, I think that might be a tough time for a meet then since Labour Day is a bust time for a lot of people.

Here's the info on the convention centre open house...
Quote:
Public Open Houses April 4 and 5
March 25th, 2009

The new Vancouver Convention Centre expansion is opening its doors. You’re invited to join us between 10am and 4pm on Saturday April 4 and Sunday April 5 for a behind the scenes look at Vancouver’s newest addition to the waterfront. Be our guest and enjoy live family entertainment from around BC, learn about the bees living on our six-acre grass and wildflower roof, and enter to win a family picnic on the living roof, or an intimate dinner for two in our 6,000 person ballroom overlooking the Burrard Inlet. And please be green, we are an easy walk from the Skytrain and the Seabus Terminal at Waterfront Station.

I'm gonna check out the convention centre opening.

I walked by yesterday, and people were walking in and out on private tours. Probably could have gone in.

Sounds like a good idea, although we would have to establish a general meeting time and place.

Saturday works for me better. How about we say...

Meet Saturday, April 4 @ 10am in Waterfront Station in front of the Starbucks.

I'll be taking the seabus over and I assume others will be taking transit to get there so that seems like a reasonable place to meet. Would that time work for you fever?

edit: I called the Shangri-La and they said they weren't sure if they'd be doing a tour next weekend. The girl I talked to suggested I call back later in the week. I'll have to keep you guys posted about whether that tour will work out or not.

I might be able to do the 5th but the 4th is no good as I'm tied up with the city on the Norquay village workshop all day.

Unfortunately the Saturday is the only day that works for me. My feelings won't be hurt if another group meets on Sunday... I'll still wait around waterfront station on the Saturday though.
