BBVA Compass shortened the name to BBVA so they had to change the logo up top to BBVA, nothing special.

Never stated it was special.

No longer blue on top and way less bright at night. I thought the old lights looked better.

Either way looks horrible. The building wasn't designed to have that fugly sign on top.

Exactly. A different shade of lipstick on a pig, is still lipstick on a pig.

I have defended the HDRC many, many times in various forums, but this is one of the times where I don't understand their approval. This sign, and to a lesser extent the "USAA" on One Riverwalk Place, really looks cheap. I actually prefer the "Credit Human" signage.

Sounds like this will be a neat addition to Downtown:

https://therivardreport.com/event-pr...paza-building/

"The immersive art event group Hopscotch first debuted its mix of fantastical, technology-driven, immersive art installations in Austin in February. Later this year, Hopscotch plans to open its first permanent gallery space in the Travis Park Plaza Building in downtown San Antonio.

To fill its nearly 18,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space, Hopscotch has issued an open call for artists to submit proposals to create “experiential art” installations. Hopscotch founders Nicole Jensen and Hunter Inman are looking to bring together 12 to 14 installations by individual artists and artist collaboratives, which could include interactive technology such as sound- and movement-triggered lighting effects, projection mapping, optical illusions, experimental architecture, kinetic and robotic art, inflatable structures, and anything else artists can dream up.

“We’re very much open to the odd, the weird, the strange, the interesting,” Inman said. “We very much want to invite people to bring their creativity to us, to think beyond their limitations."

This is a great place for it, too.

Awesome! Although I still think they should call it the Pig District. Think of the British pub that could be there... The Pig & Pearl.

Another Development for Broadway, this looks like it's across from Lincoln Heights.

"Less commercial, more residential which greatly reduces traffic." Only if they're talking about office space and not retail space. Otherwise that's a crock of sh--. But it is right across the street from a "historic" HEB and its accompanying strip mall, so there's retail there.

Yay for Broadway East! Glad to see that moving along.

Isn't 7600 Broadway the project that Alamo Heights kept protesting? The older projects were cooler but at least it's something I guess.

You're thinking of the Broadway/Austin Hwy project that got a few locals riled up. Despite years of delays, it's under construction.

Any kind of mixed use development in central San Antonio is a good thing. This will be located at the periphery(edge of Alamo heights entrance to Oak Park) of San Antonio's urban core. The project is nice without the retail but it would be cool if retail was included.

From The Rivard Report:

Three blocks north of the RK Group property on East Commerce, a $220 million redevelopment of the five-acre Merchants Ice complex on East Houston Street by the Texas Research and Technology Foundation(TRTF) will house a biotech incubator and accelerator and biomanufacturing center.

TRTF CEO Randy Harig scored a coup earlier this month with the hiring of Rene Dominguez, who served as director of the city’s Economic Development Department, as the new president and chief operating officer. Harig also disclosed plans to recruit U.S. Army bioscience research programs to the site.

Could not be more thrilled for Rene Dominguez to depart from the Economic Development group. He did our city such a disservice being the face of economic development--ineffective and bureaucratic.

In the Canopy web cam you can see a big crane just beyond the USAA rehab... around Avenue B and Brooklyn. What is that?

H-E-B LP plans to build a 150,000-square-foot, five-story tech center at its San Antonio headquarters that will house 1,000 employees, the company announced today. The expansion will add 500 new jobs in San Antonio, while moving a portion of the reported 1,000 San Antonio-based digital team employees into the building....

San Antonio-based Lake Flato Architects will design the San Antonio project, which will have similar features to the Austin facility, including open collaboration areas, individual work spaces and meeting rooms equipped with advanced technology and video conferencing capabilities. Construction is scheduled to begin by summer 2020 and is tentatively set for completion by summer 2022
