They appeared to be installing quite a few monitoring wells in the ground earlier this week.
They must be doing a Phase II ESA. I know there used to a dry cleaning plant in the general vicinity that contaminated a lot of groundwater in the area with PERC. Hopefully it is all degraded and flushed-out by now.

A right of way usage permit for construction was filed today. Construction could start as soon as Monday, 11/11.

Well at least we won't be staring at an empty lot for much longer. So glad the Roosevelt Room is staying put. If you have not been, their drinks are more than worth the price. I only need one to get myself sufficiently buzzed.

Waiting on the permits...

EDIT: That security buildup at ZaZa was for the VP's visit a couple days ago.

I don't think his schedule would have permitted it.

The Zaza turned out so nice. It is really lovely walking down along the 4th street sidewalk by the building. Really begs for the Hobby building to be bulldozed and something to be built there for a nice strolling experience on that side of the street.

Aside from the obvious ability to work within space constrained spaces -- is a Luffing crane any different from a standard tower crane?

I can't answer definitively though I've always assumed that they pretty much do the same thing as the typical cranes.

What you already know, plus a luffing crane takes a bit longer to raise its payload due to it having have to maneuver more than a tower crane which merely needs to be over the payload and pull it straight up. But in tight spots, its a no brainer. Luffing wins.

Thanks Genral -- that's about what I thought.

There did appear to be some activity on site today (think they were taking laser measurements from across the street) - 11/19.

The site plan was approved and released. No final elevations yet. This could break ground before year end. Although it pretty much has already - just not officially.

They still need their construction permits. But that doesn't usually take too long after the site plan is approved.

They plan on starting soon. They filed for a right of way closure permit around the site beginning Monday 12/16.
