Last I heard additional lighting was being installed. The initial test run wasn't to their satisfaction. I can't find the link but there are pictures of the test run out there.

I appreciate that they don't want to turn the switch on until they get it the way they want. I'm the same way with the artsy part of my world. I look at outside sources sometimes to get ideas. Perhaps they should look at numerous prisons for inspiration. They have been illuminating fences for a hundred years or longer. Refer to the experts I always sometimes say.

Hey y'all,

I've been lurking here for awhile, as I love seeing all the development here in Austin and I'm excited for what the future holds.

I know y'all have been discussing the potential lighting on the Independent crown, and I was lucky to actually catch a glimpse of it last night.

About 30 seconds after I took this photo they turned off the lights. I guess they were doing a test and I just happened to look at the right time.

In my opinion, it doesn't look very good. :/

Welcome. And yeah. That doesn’t look good at all.

Great first post!

Welcome!

But hey, at least it's better than a non-lit crown at all. I wonder if it will change colors of it red is the only color it will have? Time will tell

Very exciting news and thanks for posting the picture! Hope to see more content from you in the future!

That can't be the final product. At least I hope not. I'll assume that was a limited test and great things will follow.

I wanna say that can't be the lighting.... It should be lighted from the outside of the fence, not from within. Maybe it's a test of the emergency red light...

Man, I hope it's brighter than that. I can barely see it at night now as it is despite being right smack dab in the middle of some of the skyline views we have around South Austin. At this point, the two most impressive buildings at night in that view are the Frost Bank Tower and the South Austin Hospital.

WOW!!!! That.........looks.....................................................................................................
just like a reflection from the trail of lights. Unfortunately, it still appears to be an illuminated fence on top of a building. If this is really lit and not a reflection, I'm going to write this off and wait for 6X to hopefully light the top the right way. This displeases me. Heck, that ridiculously out of scale spire on the Fairmont looks 17.625 X's better that this.

The crown is not all lit up in that photo, and the link doesn't work for those of us who refuse to join the Facebook universe. Can you post a photo of the crown lit up?

I got all excited for a min. If that's the reflection from the trail of lights then I'm impressed.

I think that's just some glow from the city. There is definitely some post editing going on there. There's no way you'd be able to see that many stars in the sky plus all those bright lights on the ground.

The photo should be showing up for you guys, even if you aren't on Facebook since the photo was shared globally. The only way it wouldn't show up is if was in a private group or only shared with someone's friends.

It's a long exposure. So everything appears brighter than it normally would.

LOL Guys, if the top still appears unfinished and unlit, you're just not squinting enough.
