the Hatchery

Looks like the RBJ Center is going to be folded into the Hatchery. Apparently that entire area was a HUGE fish hatchery.

Great renderings in the link that I've not seen here yet.

check out each of the phases for additional renderings.

I've been working on a story about this project for ages, but the developers have been pretty cagey with what they're providing to the media. I'm surprised they're letting this site go live without coordinating any additional coverage, that's generally the way these things go. Looks good!

I wish there was a way to reskin the outside of the old folks building. It's so ugly.

I like all of this and think it should include even more senior living. However, one thing I really wish they'd include is an HEB that Rainey residents could walk to.

market rate apartments, subsidized senior apartments, retail and commercial. If they finish it out as they plan, it will be great for the area, city.

I remember when there was an extensive fish hatchery in operation at that location.

Towers.net has an article on this and talks about the fish hatchery. This is an aerial photo of it. Part of the hatchery is still there.

It was there in the late 1950s to the early 1960s.
Used to see it every time we drove north across the new I-35 bridge.

It looks like they are at least partially updating the facade based on a couple of renderings they posted at Towers.

The local classical radio station will be moving into a new building in this development, leaving their rented office on a weird and quiet stretch of Lamar. I'm curious how a local independent classical radio station has enough scratch to build its own brand new building, but good for them.

Maybe they've been saving up for 52 years.
