It's got to be quite the wake up call for Rana. She was beaten by the one guy who ran a terrible campaign. Bad press all over the place. Embarrassing moments where Greg tells him to calm down during a live press conference. The Twitter thing. And Rana ends up third with Kinew winning...

In some respects I think parties are too quick to hurry unsuccessful rookie leaders out the door after a loss. There is merit to the slow, steady approach... the NDP was very wise to stick with Doer even after he lost three elections in a row before starting a dynasty. By contrast, the PCs were probably too quick to bounce Murray and McFadyen. The mistakes you make early on in leadership pave the way for later success.

That said, I'm not sure there is much to salvage with Rana. I know she was kind of on her own with inadequate staff support, but I don't think she has a fundamental grasp of how provincial politics works. Or at least if she does, she has no idea how to convey that. I think several of her candidates would have been far better suited to being leader.

Credit to Rana, she came in at a very low ebb for the Liberals and snapped up the leadership. But it's time for her and the party to move on in different directions. The results demonstrate that there is potential for a Liberal party in Manitoba, but it will need a much better qualified individual to attain it.

Without knowing Rana, I sense she does not listen to experienced advise.

I am positive that the new business friendly climate in Manitoba will ensure that this project is a slam dunk. And, I'm certain a forest of new skyscrapers (all glass, of course) will sprout in downtown Winnipeg as a result.

Let's just start by saying I have zero use for Selinger. But I do like the NDP.
As for this Palister. I think you are all to naive with him.

Facts.

He is not pro downtown anything.
He is not pro gay anything.
He is a bible thumper. ( quote by him - non believers are Infidel Athiests )
He wants to start privatizing health care.
He has his eyes on privatizing MB Hydro ( don't forget how well privatizing MTS went over )
He wants to farm put street cleaning and other cleaning services ( don't forget how well farming garbage went over and now actually costs us more )
Don't expect much for road renewal.

And those who keep saying we need to balance the budget. That's only done by making massive cuts everywhere. And making cuts right now when the borrowing money is at an all time low is stupid. This is the time we need to borrow and get this province fixed. It's only going to cost MORE later to fix.

What part of: the province is paying $842 MILLION a year in interest alone to cover this provinces $21 BILLION debt don't you socialists get?

What part of civic garbage pickup and street cleaning is a city responsibility?

Are you stoned on 4/20 today or what?

I supported and voted for the NDP the last few elections, but this time around, I wanted Selinger out. At some point, a government needs a reset button every now and then.

Alberta just got rid of the PCs who were in power for 40+ years, and of course we got rid of Harper who was in power for nearly 10 years.

That's the beauty (or ugliness, depending on your point of view) of democracy.

Conservative governments in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. An NDP government in Alberta.

10 years ago, you could've got great odds against that, bet heavy and retired wealthy...

Actually that is a city responsibility. I can just through my garbage and shit buckets out the window like people used to. Let it pile up in the street along with everyone elses so we can all get typhoid or cholera.

Every government in the world should be responsible for the health and well being of the citizens. Otherwise what are they good for. That is the most basic part of government, besides protecting the country itself.
So you are saying that Pallister is going to force municipalities and the city of Winnipeg to privatize their garbage pickup?
