Perhaps that is how a taller crown could be incorporated in a less jarring way that we have experimented with previously.

As has been pointed out before, the top two frustums do taper, but are much taller than the lower frustums so the taper is less drastic.

^That's not what we are referring to. r18tdi noted the 20' crown, which begins at EL 1,171', is not tapered.

saw this in person on a walk today. The glass really picks up the sky colors when it is sort of overcast

I think the darker shaded areas are going to register as more blue, and the shades that progress lighter look greener. The lightest shade was almost gray-green today

Yeah I see it now that all the posts on this page are loaded lol. I think I opened this page earlier in the day and then didn't see others had posted before I replied.

Interesting that the crown does that. Are there 2 floors that go strictly vertical at each joint in the frustums?

Viewed from the west, Vista has transformed how the eye perceives the skyline. It was peak at Hancock, peak at Trump, peak at Aon, peak at Sears. Now it's a flat plateau in the middle, the eye doesn't drop down as it scans across the top.
Interesting how different it feels looking out at the city.

Agreed. I habit been out here in a couple weeks, but the last few times I was there, I noticed the glass gradation looks/photographs better when it's overcast as opposed to when it's clear/sunny out. Wonder how that will effect final photos...

Some photos I took from the riverwalk. Sorry for poor mobile quality. Looked like they were installing and testing the opening windows on the lower floors of the west tower.

I wish I could get back more, but coming in once a year to Chicago provides a noticeable change in perspective when looking at the skyline. I look forward to seeing your description on my next trip. Driving north on Lake Shore Drive this past October was different than past years thanks to Vista.

The verticality of this building is stunning. Not sure if it's the curves, the lower setback elevations, its positioning, but this building just celebrates height.

The architect herself is probably thinking that too! I bet this building is turning out better than what the simulations and models predicted. Vista is such a wonderful addition to Chicago.
