IMO, Atlanta's skyline has developed into one of the most beautiful at night.

The addition of all the new buildings and the interstates packed with cars at night make for a wonderful scene.

I've never seen the other side of Toronto City Hall. I was unaware it did not have windows. Interesting building.

In my opinion Hong Kong trumps all. They have turned skyscrapers into an art form there.

in no particular order... (and i would love to complete my selections with pictures, but i cant)

1. san francisco (it is a classic. complete with water, various elevations, density, the bridge, and some masterpieces)
*i will include sydney with this one as well.

2. chicago (no explanation really needed)

3. new york city (solely because no other skyline in the world can compare. because new york is so overwhelming, it most certainly deserves a spot)

4. paris (the tower works wonders, and the citys skyline proportions are beautiful)

5. tokyo (because it is so expansive and uniform. nothing but red and white light, and the tokyo tower to top it off).

6. shanghai (the color!)

7. atlanta (i know... "atlanta? really!?" but the truth is, few cities in the world can match its slender [and lengthy] profile and how well lit every building is. every building stands out as its own at night. it is very unique)

About in that order though it depends on my mood and other things. I just went by the massiveness of the skyline, diversity of architecture, setting, arrangement of towers,etc. I totally judged the skylines and not what I thought of the cities at all, none of that biased crap. I was very objective when I made this list. I have been to all of those cities except Shanghai and Hong Kong. I also looked at most skylines from around the world several times from different angles to get the best views. Like I said though, I may change my mind a little from day to day, but not too much

^I don't think it's under rated. Philly has an amazing skyline. As for the NY comments, who cares how many buildings it has? It's about how the skyline looks not how many 200 meter buildings there are.

Cities like Philly, Seattle, Shanghai (Pudong), Hong Kong, Canary Wharf, Toronto and Frankfurt have way better looking skylines than NY. New York's skylines are impressive but I don't think they're in the top 10 'best' night skylines in the world. Maybe Lower Manhattan but that's it for now. Once the entire WTC complex is complete Lower Manhattan will jump up to one of the best skylines out there.

more does not equal better, its also arguable that new york has more 200m building than HK, even so that debate is pointless, the best is the one with the most varied colour, the most awe inspiring, in those terms HK beats everything

new york nightskyline (in terms of light colour) is too homogeneous for some

The Comcast tower really elevated Philadelphia's skyline. The lighting is fantastic and the design is so crisp and modern.

New York likely will not have the sort of exuberant lighting that Hong Kong has for a long time. Part of its self-identity is the image of Gotham. Stone and masonry is still very highly regarded, etc. (Which is why the NY Times tower is truly excellent as a massive counterpoint to the flashy Times Square, but I digress).

Also in the Berlin pictures, that much smaller antenna structure in the foreground to the bigger Fernsehturm looks like a mini Tokyo Sky Tree.

PA Pride, Pittsburgh has a great skyline for having a population of only 350,000 or so.

I'm from Philly and of course I love our skyline. Since they abandoned the unofficial height limit (about 510" to be below William Penn's feet on city hall's tower) about 22 years ago they have built some really nice, distinctive towers. It will never be New York but we don't want to be! And if the slow economy doesn't kill the proposed American Commerce Center we might have a 1,500 footer in a few years. Hope hope hope!

People, pay close attention to Chongqing and it's night skyine in the next ten years (think Shanghai in 1999). I was there for my first time two weeks ago and was blown away. There are at least three separate skylines that I saw all anchored by a 800ft+ building. The designs of the new towers are quality.
In Jiefangbei (the city center) there are three supertalls UC. I wish the weather would have been better so I could have taken some up-to-date photos for all of you, but unfortunately, the clouds hung so low that it made it impossible.
I can seriously see CQ becoming a very well known city around the world in 10 years. The growth that's happening there is almost unparalleled.
