I think that is the first men’s specific clothing store in the mall. That’s huge! Population wise I would say this store is a huge achievement for Saskatoon - H&M is all over Canada in tiny centres, but Saskatoon would be one of the smaller centres Jack and Jones has entered.

Now Saskatoon just needs to get the first Simon's Store in Sask. Much better than H&M imo.

That would be quite exciting - they don't have too much of a western presence yet. I found it so strange that H&M existed in Red Deere AB and not Saskatoon - horrible expansion strategy.

Simons only is in Edmonton, Calgary, and West Van in Western Canada, but they do have a location in Gatineau Quebec - which has a population of ~250,000.

Simmons, Olive Garden, and IKEA, and we've climaxed retail trends

You do know that Gatineau is directly across the river from Ottawa, and is part of the National Capital Region?

They do have a Simons in Sherbrooke which is smaller than Gatineau.

Also Ottawa has a Simons downtown, less than 10 km from the one in Gatineau.

Ryly's

I heard that the old Tequila's / Ryly's nightclub on 33rd and Alberta is being demolished. Anyone heard what the plans are for this location?

Not sure it was mentioned on here but the Canadian Brewhouse opened another location adjacent to the Hampton village. I had no idea it was happening. Came across it by accident.

It would make sense if there were some type of student accommodations next to SIAST, but there isn't. If students are gonna drive home after class, might as well go downtown to one of the better clubs.

This story is today's S-P sounds a little ominous:

Quote:
MEC opening date in Saskatoon unclear amid difficult year for outdoor retailer

Quote:
“We have no new information to share at this time,” Kathleen McDonald, a spokeswoman for the Toronto public relations firm handling media requests for MEC, said in an emailed statement.

“We are working with our partners and will provide updates in due course. We are committed to moving forward in the best interest of our Co-op and our members.”

Asked directly whether MEC is still planning to open its Saskatoon store this spring, McDonald reiterated her previous statement.

Bricks and mortar retail is turning into a wasteland. What will happen if we actually have a recession.

Does seem a bit ominous that neither MEC or Midtown will not confirm they are going ahead. I do think this would be one of their locations that good actually add to their profit line, but perhaps the overall health of the company prevents this kind of investment currently. Would be a shame....

Definitely concerning that they had a 23.2 million dollar swing in the wrong direction year-over-year, but I guess that's why the CEO got the boot. Hoping they can turn it around and at least get the store off the ground here.

"The co-operative reported losing $11.5 million on sales totalling $462.4 million in the fiscal year ended Feb. 24, 2019. By comparison, MEC made $11.7 million on $454.8 million in sales the previous year."

I see that the coverings are now off the new building " The Monarch" on the corner of Queen and 2nd Ave. The building and sign look good to me and seems to fit the area. I have heard there is a small craft brewery of some kind going into part of the space. Any word of who the other occupants will be?

Update: I see on Google maps that it shows Better Brothers Brewing as an occupant. Sounds interesting. Nothing on their web site other than "coming soon". Sorry if this is old news but I have been away for a while.

So if the Starbuck stripmall at 25th and 2nd looked a lot more like the great infill mall on Queen and 2nd Ave, I would imagine there would be a lot more support for it.

I think The Monarch looks great! Hope the have no issues filling the space.

Sparrow Coffee is going into the corner space: https://www.facebook.com/sparrowcoffee.yxe/

With a coffee shop and craft brewery, and Earls across the street, that's going to be a great little corner for the neighbourhood/

Konz, purveyors of pizza in a cone, are coming to the SW corner of Broadway and 11th. Is anyone familiar with this chain. Is this a good thing?

I was semi-worried it was ice cream as that gelato spot down the block is the best ice cream in town. This is a great attraction to enhance walkability that doesn't interfere with Una Pizza's sales. Broadway is doing so well.
