^^^ Suburban Shadow, thanks for the heads up. This is rather big news.
Developer Tries Comeback With New Chicago Waldorf
By JENNIFER S. FORSYTH
September 27, 2007; Page B1 .....The Waldorf-Astoria is being built in a partnership with Fordham Co., a Chicago-based high-end residential developer. Preliminary plans call for a 100-floor tower that in no way resembles its Art Deco-style Manhattan namesake. Instead, the project is more akin in style to the Chicago Spire, the 2,000-foot-tall condominium project being built by architect Santiago Calatrava on Lake Shore Drive. "It's a little bit of a tip of the hat to the Spire just down the street, as they are both slender, tall and elegant, but it's different," says Christopher Carley, chairman of Fordham...... http://online.wsj.com/article/SB119085473819840797.html
To post a picture first of all save the image onto your computer. If you can't do that for some reason, hit the "print screen" button and paste it a photo editing program and save.
Then go to imageshack.us and upload the file. Copy the "direct link to image" url into a post here and put after the url.
I'm hoping it doesn't have condos, because the last thing I want to see is more competition for the Chicago Spire (because then NEITHER of these will get built)

The river is becoming crazy dense. In ten years' time, she'll be a river canyon unlike anything else in the man-made world. Heck, she's already a river canyon unlike anything else in the man-made world!
Bear with me, but how can the Chicago market possibly absorb this much luxury condo/hotel space? Is there really that much demand out there?
I know this is probably rhetorical but you're asking a bunch of people who don't know here. My hesitation on the project is based on a "better safe than sorry" approach with regards to not choking off the Spire's sales. No one knows what demand exist, beyond the fact that it's not limitless and the empirical evidence indicates that it is slowing.
This thing is stunning. I hope they use two shades of glass. That is what it looks like to me, a dark blue and a light blue. Can't wait to hear further news.
Looks like the hoteliers are betting on a 2016 bid.
All of these new proposals Chicago is getting is a little be imbarassing.
There's nothing to be embarrassed about (even if you weren't necessarily serious bnk) - it's high time developers, buyers, visitors etc., realize how important and sophisticated Chicago is and I think a proposal like this helps further cement that reputation worldwide - embarrasement of riches perhaps but this city needs to stop being so meek relative to the coasts, and start to really shine on it's own

I was just giving out a little bit of sacastic humor that does not translate well in these threads sometime.
Please don't get me wrong, I knew you weren't being serious about that, I was just using it as a jumping off point for my rant LOL - I think this project is just another great example of how Chicago is coming into it's own as a world-city (I know that term gets bandied around a lot these days, but I feel it's totally warranted as indicated by this new development).
