I'm intrigued as to why they designed it to face Cherry St. rather than Commerce. It would be much nicer if it did face Commerce more but still, I'm happy to see some development, be it grand or small, come to the east side

Some pictures from the mySA.com slideshow
Battle of the Flowers Parade

Aerial of Broadway/Grayson

Hopefully in a few years, they won't be able to park on those two lots.

^Make sure you post a link to where you found those photos please, miaht82. Make sure it's a link to the actual website where you found them, and not just a photo link.

Great picture. Forgive my ignorance, I am sure most of you know the answer, but why do you say “hopefully they won't be able to park on those two lots” (in reference of course to the latter picture)? Are they planning something there?

Did anyone else see the awesome aerial shot during the 3rd quarter of the Spurs game last night? It had the AT&T center in the foreground, but looking west you could clearly make out downtown silhouetted against the sun. I'm not sure I've ever seen the skyline look quite that dense AND (relatively) tall. Glad to see my city representing well on national TV

Yea, I just hope they update their footage of downtown, I wanna see the aerial shot w/ the Grand Hyatt in it. The footage they had didn't even have the crane for the GH. But once they refilm it I'd be very happy to see downtown more filled out on national tv.

I'm pretty sure GH was in the shot I was talking about. I know they had a street level shot of the Alamo that had it.

They have a couple of stock shots I've seen this season that show the GH and Vidorra both under construction. I kinda like that because it makes it look like there's still a bit of a boom going on, lol.

Well, HemisView Village is nearing completion; looks like some guys were touching up the building today and the landscapers were scouting the area. Couple people I know are moving in this weekend. I don't care what anyone says; 245 units is 245 more than we had up until now.

16 months ago, we were down -568 'for rent' units in Center City (Vidorra, St. B's, and this.)

The more I hear about Alameda the more I wish they'd just cut their loss and close the place. It is costly to operate and hardly attracts any guests. It was a failed attempt. Oh well. Let's move on...

When I was driving down to NIOSA with a couple of friends, the SA native in the car told us that the HemisView apartments was essentially the projects. Is this the general consensus in San Antonio?

Well, I am a native too and grew up in the Lavaca neighborhood and I would have to say, no. If you wanted projects, you should have driven by there 10+ years ago. I remember the Victoria Courts clearly and this is nowhere near that.
Also, considering the fact that the rent for a 1 BR at HemisView is more than 95% of the average 1 BR's in SA, I would say that it isn't. If you want to see projects, look for institutional-type buildings near Alazan Creek.

I believe those apartments are a SAHA (San Antonio Housing Authority) project (if I have the name right), but these days the focus is on a mixed income project. There are so many units that will be available for low income; not sure how many. So it will provide low income housing, but, as previously mentioned, the market is setting the rent for the rest of the units.

I know they haven't finished the landscaping, but it looks hot. Very few trees, no grass. Right next to a lot of concrete and asphalt. I know, I know, these are street side photos, but that was my first impression. Probably because it's getting warmer outside.

They were the projects back when they were the old Victoria Courts but they were torn done in 1999 or 2000 and now this new mixed-income development has taken its place.

So to recap, it once was the projects but not anymore.

Victoria Courts were nothing when compared to Wheatley or Apache.

Then again, I heard San Juan was coming up from behind in cray cray.

So I went on an unexpected trip downtown today (I wish I could have took some pictures), and I must say that it is shaping up nicely. I don't know why, but I was expecting to be disappointed and I was pleasantly surprised. Maybe it had to do with the weather, but it looked real pretty down there, a lot more than I remembered. One of these days I've got to take some pictures because there were so many good angles and I sort of forgot how urban it was. Look forward to more developments.
