The braced frames resist lateral forces (wind, seismic) in the north-south direction; the core shearwalls resist those forces in an east-west direction.
Some of the beam spans are quite long, so the beams are upsized a bit for vibration response, to keep them from "fluttering" under foot traffic/moving loads. If you are Christmas shopping at KOP, just stop for a second and lean on the second level railings--you can feel the mall floors flutter as people walk by.....
