I hope they have high standards for what's in the windows though.

The giant posters are 100x worse for the aesthetic of the building. Regardless of how good the exhibit they're advertising is, they look tacky on the otherwise clean and minimalist facade.
Without the posters on the WAG, the building is plain,non-descript. They've been doling that since 1986-ish. Another hate on the 1980s again from some.

And they also added those huge Mezo sculpture public art thingies.

I really like the way they put the ads up. Looks nicely placed on the building and they're generally very selective and make sure the "ads" are more focused on art than just some big promotional posters.

What will be the street address of the IAC? Will it just be an extension of 300 Memorial Blvd. or a new unit number?

That is just a large all wheel drive forklift.

...I believe Skyjack is a brand name, like Caterpillar, Bobcat etc

From that view it actually looks like the new apartment building was designed to combine Colony Square and Downtown Commons lol. Big square windows (CS) randomly placed and mixed with small ones (DC).

Not sure if it was mentioned here but along with the Shop, there will be a new cafe going where the new glass was put in the original building on Memorial. Apparently (unsurprisngly) when the restaurant was on the roof, they had very little people coming for casual meals. They'd like to turn a cafe into a profit centre, so they want it on the street and visible to public.

Nothing wrong with that IMO. The WAG needs income to function, and it may create a little sidewalk activity along a pretty empty stretch.

Certainly great timing to be opening a new restaurant in a closed space rather than in an open-air space like a roof.

we could just fund it as a centre of public education and culture rather than cheapening the mission and building design by adding another fucking cafe. i like cafes but not every new business that opens can be a cafe.

True as that may be, there is an element of 'out of sight, out of mind' at play here. I used to lunch at the WAG every now and again but I haven't in a long time... it's easy to forget it exists. It was never busy when I ate there. The increased visibility will probably lead to more business

I take your point, but cafes and restaurants are common accessories for museums and galleries worldwide including many of the most renowned... I think most people accept that. It's not as though WAG carved out space for a Dollarama or a Money Mart...

The WAG is dead to me for desecrating their building. Unforgivable.

Yeah I don't really understand why they just didn't move the shop and cafe to the new building if they wanted it to have street presence.
