First of all, I'm doing this in two sets. Since I've never been a big fan of huge photo sets, just takes too long to load, unless I'm at home...which is rare.
Second, this set (Part One) is the first in what I see as being a series of adventures in St. Louis (and maybe other cities), using only $20. The rules: You cannot use your car. You cannot spend more than $20 throughout the day (although peripheral expenditures may be allowed). You must eat at least twice. You must take pictures.
The first adventure had, was with my cousin Tara, and myself (I'm the dude who's in a few of the pics, and behind the camera most of the time).
So, with that...away we go...
Step one: Leaving my cousins loft, on a beautiful Sunday morning. Approx time: 10:15
Her building
Walking up Wash Ave to grab breakfast.
Washington and 14th.
My favorite sign in the world. It's coming down though, damn gentrification.
Stopping in at the Wash Ave Post...
Which boasts a plethora of flags...Hefe, d'you know what a plethora is?
Breakfast, Coffee, $17.78
Our man Jose. He maka de crepes! (well, actually his wife does)
Me, and my crepe.
Tara's crepe.
OH THE HUMANITY!!! SOMEONE BROUGHT THEIR CHILDREN TO THE CITY, SAVE THEM!!!
Leaving...mmmm, crepes.
Walking up Wash Ave, no particular reason for this shot.
Checking out the new development.
Another pointless picture. But that sign in the other window says 'Opening Summer 2006: Flamingo Bowl'...uh, okay.
Bee Hat, Dubliner, random retail.
Uh, just making myself comment on every shot.
Come in and see the bankers lofts, just step into the street to get there...
So we stepped into the street and found this beautiful bathroom.
Great living space!
Even a fireplace!
Back onto the sidewalk.
Dooley's and the Chemical Buildi....errr, the Alexa.
The Old Post Office district.
A new sculpture downtown. The Walking Thing.
Tara walking. CBD streetscape.
A poorly executed picture of the Met Square building, and the sun.
Looking down 7th at Busch Stadium.
Walking back to Wash Ave.
The US Bank Building, with the US Bank branch in front.
Tara in front of the Macy's Building.
The thing I love about this building is that it can look so helplessly ugly at times, but at the right angle, it's a stunning structure.
Get out the wrecking ball.
Where I would live if I could afford it. Such a cool building.
[chef from little mermaid]Haw, Haw, Le Lumiere!![/chef from little mermaid]
Walking by the landing, the very faint smell of urine on a sunday morning eminates...
The sign tells you where we are. Literally the river is right there these days.
I'll save you Meriweather!!
High Water.
More high water.
Pigeons...Eads. Poetry.
We hopped the Metro (All day pass: $4.50 x2 = $9), but we walked up and the train was pulling up, and I forgot to snap a pic...alas, we got off at Busch to say hello to the Man.
Resting.
Calling Mom, it was Mother's Day after all.
Not quite Lewis & Clark.
Busch from the Metro station.
Here comes the train!
Heading to the CWE and Forest Park.
Part Two Coming Later...
