Although I'd love to see some additional angles, that is a GREAT looking building! What is the likelihood that this gets built? I had seen the thread over at DallasMetropolis but had a hard time wading through the whining.

New Uptown landmark to neighbor Crescent
Rosewood Court to break ground next month on office-retail project
11:16 PM CDT on Wednesday, September 6, 2006
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcont...d.2f04af1.html

By STEVE BROWN / The Dallas Morning News

"Rosewood Property Co. defined Uptown in the 1980s when it built the $400 million Crescent complex.

Now the company founded by Caroline Rose Hunt plans to build a second landmark across the street.

Rosewood Court, going up at Cedar Springs Road and Pearl Street, is designed to complement the Crescent complex, which is across the street. Rosewood and CarrAmerica Realty will break ground next month at the vacant corner of Cedar Springs Road and Pearl Street.

At 19 stories, Rosewood Court will be the same height as the Crescent and will share some of its building materials – granite, limestone and glass.

But this modern building will be no knockoff.

"We are not trying to duplicate the Crescent, but we feel like we have a project of very high quality that Uptown and the surrounding area will be very proud of," said Dennis King, Rosewood Property senior vice president...."

"..Rosewood Court will be one of the largest projects started in Uptown in more than a decade, and it is significantly pre-leased...."

Dallas Center for the Performing Arts

Construction has begun on a new multi-venue performing arts center for music, opera, theater and dance that will include the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House and Annette Strauss Artist Square, both designed by Foster and Partners, the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre, co-designed by Pritzker Award-winning architect Rem Koolhaas (OMA) and Joshua Prince-Ramus (REX), and City Performance Hall, designed by Skidmore Owings Merrill. The four venues will be woven together by a new Performance Park covering more than ten acres, which will unify the buildings and create a dynamic cultural destination in downtown Dallas.

So exciting to finally see construction for the performing arts center!

I just visited down there a couple weeks ago. I left the DFW area in 2000 and am absolutely amazed at the development. It all looks great. Favorites from my visit:
1. Northpark Expansion
2. West Village (love the density)
3. W Hotel
4. Southlake Town Center (huge! didn't know they were going to keep building like that. Love the mix of retail and housing.)

This is GREAT news for Dallas. Has another city created an entire cultural district of this scope/scale...ever? It is an impressive achievement and a testament to the city and the residents whose contributions made this happen.

Chicago firm buys lot near Quadrangle
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcon...le.31b852f.html

After 20 years, parking area may be developed into apartments

09:27 AM CDT on Monday, September 25, 2006
By STEVE BROWN / The Dallas Morning News

"The parking lot at Vine and Howell streets in Uptown has been on developers' radar screen for more than 20 years...."

"...Chicago-based AMLI Residential has purchased the 2.5-acre site and plans to build more than 300 rental units...."

"...Terms of the sale were not disclosed. Land in the area sells for $80 per square foot and more....While other builders have balked at starting a project on the Quadrangle site, AMLI has the financial clout to do the project, said Dallas residential analyst Mike Puls...."

"..Since the developer must also replace the Quadrangle parking now on the land, Mr. Puls said, the project will have to be a mid-rise or high-rise building...."

I wish the american airlines arena fit in more with the new buildings going in around it. the brick building looks a little strange surrounded by these new modern all-glass buildings

This reminds me of the Umeda Sky Building in Osaka.

Too bad the Dallas counterpart won't have an escalator suspended 35 stories above the ground!
