In case you two missed it, which seems to be very obviously the case, that was me dropping the hint that you both need to knock it off.

So does this make 2 luffing cranes up in the Valley? One in Tempe for 999 Playa del Norte and now The Derby?

Is the one at 999 a luffing? I saw it the other day and it looks like it's just a steeply angled tower crane. Does the jib move up and down?

As an aside, I love the hulking mass to the east Link is that will grow only larger with Link Phase 2. (can someone go over and check on them please?)

It's like 7th St got its very own Viad Tower.

I'll double check the next time I go by, but I'm fairly certain it's a luffing crane with the jib moving up and down. I think it's because of the close proximity to the SRP power lines that they couldn't use a regular tower crane.

Crane is getting there. I'll swing by this afternoon and hopefully have a completed crane to get a pic of.

Also, I talked onsite with the Hensel Phelps project manager onsite this morning and the reason for the delays in the crane was because the crane actually shipped from the Middle East! There were lots of shipping problems due to COVID-19. There must be a short supply of luffing cranes to have come all the way from the Middle East!

Amazing that Mat was successful in getting them to use that crane. I just wonder if the developer finally agreed to sit down and discuss it with him or if it was required by the city or whomever makes those stipulations.

It's a luffing crane. Most tower cranes are hammerheads which have a fixed jib. Luffing crane have jibs that can move up and down.

Edit: Here's a good video animation of one.
