The road to the left just after the interchange is Range Rd.

IMO the rifle range should just be connected by extended Bridge Street under 102. It should have no business with that interchange.

Just imagine it yourself. Poke a hole under 102 (south of Sackville River) and call it a day. I'm brain fried from that drawing.

Providing you keep it high, it is doable. I have seen the range flood a few times.

102 south of that interchange has some substandard curve. I imagine that NSDOT will do some serious blasting to make it 3+3 or 2+2+2+2 in the future. In that case, it's possible that the 102 will be raised a bit higher.
And, as you said, Appalachian hills are easier to blast than Canadian Shield and more stable than the Rockies, so it shouldn't be too much of a hassle.

If that is the case, why not have the 102 as the one on top?

On the top where? The access to Rifle Range will go under the 102. As for the interchange, lol switching positions is too much work.

Have a bridge that puts the 102 above the rest. Ramps down to other places and then back up from them would be a start. Then fit the range road in somewhere.

By the way, I have included a table of content of all drawings so far in #1 for references.

I can't see that ever being a priority. The range must generate incredibly minimal traffic. The last time we built an underpass under the 102 it ended up costing $16 million, and that was ten years ago.

I'm just thinking that, if we're gonna redo 101-Bedford/102, we may as well take care of that because providing access from the interchange really complicates things.

Great pic q12! I hadn't seen that one before. It's cool to see how they were planning to twin the highway when they built it. But not so cool that they didn't seem to imagine the challenges of the small merge areas when the twinned highway finally started to experience its capacity a couple decades later.

Would you have a link to the source? I'd like to have a copy of that photo for my personal archives without the red arrow in it.

So does anybody know the year it was built? You can see that traffic volumes were not so much at the time or perhaps the photo was taken on a Sunday morning (Sundays were 'dead' back in the day, unlike now). Also the Mini Countryman is neat to see as they were not all that common. The other car in the foreground is a 1960 Buick.

Does anyone want to make a pros-and-cons evaluations of every drawing thus far?

Here is the link. The library seems to think this was taken in 1960.

Here is another 1960's photo showing the start of the bi hi twinned.

Both of those were postcards I believe.

These two are from N.S. Archives:
