Yeah I hope not too, but I checked the zonining diagrams and most recent one as of this March, and I hope there is some validity to the following.

Note the spire @ 1,514 ft...

That's the original diagram, with the extra floors.

True but NYC is probably one of the few (if only) places in the world that a 600+ meter tower could be necessary.

Plus, the name Park Central Tower will go great with Central Park Tower

I think necessity really based on the location, transit access (subway), and tenant/demand needs. With rising land prices, up is the only way that is feasible, especially in Midtown East or Hudson Yards neighborhood. Its not IF we will get a mega-tall, but WHEN.

And it wouldn't interfere with the FAA max height cap because a mega-tall at 600m is 1968 ft.

It is too bad it has to take down such a nice building instead of a row of trash.

You don't have to keep asking for updates on any projects. If nothing is posted, just assume there is none, or look for some yourself. It grows very old.

I really like this tower, but to my knowledge it is no longer an active proposal.

New possible news?

The city’s four-year moratorium on converting hotel rooms to residential units quietly expired over the weekend, as the city declined to extend the law following an unfavorable court decision a few months ago.
The sunsetting legislation is a major victory for hotel owners and advocates of property rights, though it’s unclear how enthusiastically developers will take advantage of it: The red-hot condo market that gave rise to the law is long gone.
The rendering shows pools at the top of the podium, perhaps this is a condo tower?

My bet is mixed use. Hotel/retail at the base, with hotel occupying lower floors, and condos/market rate purchasable units a top.

That rendering is at least 1800 feet, but I don't know how much to trust a rendering that has an antenna on Northstrom.

Someone ought to fire the Naming Department on this. Seriously, Park Central Tower? That’s almost as stupid as Tower Fifth

This tower development site is currently the Park Central Hotel. There's no indication that this is an "official name" of any future tower.

Often, building names aren't announced until the marketing phase, which is probably a few years away. But, who knows. If the economy doesn't go into recession, maybe they'll start in this cycle.

Does anyone know how much air rights this site has (including potential air rights transfers)? That will be a good indicator of approx. future height.

Not sure, can't help but think this is just a vision though. The Instagram post was pretty vague.

Is anyone actively looking to tear down the hotel and build a tower in the near future?
