Today, the groundbreaking for the long-awaited 10000 Santa Monica Boulevard residential building was conducted, acting as a huge stepping stone for these future luxury rental homes and as well as the local job market. Located on the border of Beverly Hills and Century City, the development site is set to be the only high-rise and high-end rental project in west Los Angeles. With its completion will also come incredible views of all the diverse spectrums of the city, including the Pacific Ocean and the Hollywood Hills.

Work is finally underway on a long-delayed $300-million residential skyscraper on a prime parcel at the gateway to Century City and Beverly Hills.

The 39-story apartment tower is being built by Miami developer Crescent Heights at 10000 Santa Monica Blvd. years after a high-profile struggle for the land that has long been considered one of the most valuable development sites in the country....

The units will range in size from 1,500 square feet to more than 3,000 square feet.

Building amenities are to include indoor and outdoor swimming pools, more than an acre of landscaped gardens and a tennis court. The second floor will house an expansive lounge that tenants may use to host private events such as birthday parties.

The building design by San Francisco architecture firm Handel Architects incorporates floor-to-ceiling windows in an exterior glass skin intended to create a luminous, transparent and energy-efficient facade. Unlike Century City skyscrapers nearby, 10000 Santa Monica will not have a flat roof.

Disagree. I love Century City. I love the idea of Century City. It's never going to be urban but it's a wonderful collection of mid-century modernism. I had a job interview at Gateway West (the first building built in Century City). Plus the Century Plaza Towers are some of the best skyscrapers anywhere.

Had time this morning to quickly stop on my way elsewhere, hard to get a look into the site with such a high fence and every surface so well netted off.

They finished the base pour by the end of the day, but I didn't catch the completion. Tomorrow.

This isn't the mat foundation pour yet, but rather a base pour that will go underneath the mat. Expect the mat to be much thicker, with a lot more rebar to reinforce it.

The square holes dug out along the west side of the site (bottom of the picture) are foundation footings for the parking structure, and the pad to the right of the footprint of the tower appears to be for the crane.

More concrete, forms and rebar today. Activity has really picked up. It's been fascinating to watch the process. Pretty much everyone checks out the progress everyday and tries to figure out what is what. This thing is going to take off shortly.
