From: http://www.realtynewsreport.com/index.htm

Multi-family developer Marvy Finger of the Finger Cos. has announced the topping out of the 37-story One Park Place, a high-rise residential tower in downtown Houston. One Park Place will have 346 rental residences, 12 on each floor, adjacent to the 12-acre Discovery Green, the new downtown park. The general contractor is D.E. Harvey Builders and the tower was designed by Jackson & Ryan Architects. Residences will range from 800-sf to 2,615-sf (excluding penthouses) with an average monthly rental rate of $2,500. Initial occupancy is scheduled for March. To celebrate the topping out, Finger hosted 700 construction workers for a barbecue lunch, which was attended by Mayor Bill White.

Now, onto the rooftop!

Some great pix there, especially that 4th one where it seems to look a bit thicker than from most perspectives. Plus crane pron is just good stuff.

It looked like they were getting the perimiter around the topped out portion ready for the next phase of rooftop construction. Kinda wonder what sort of timetable they're working on to get that started.

OPP is turning out great. I really like this building...my only gripe is wishing it was maybe in the 700 foot range but it is great still at 500 ft!!!!!

All of the residential floors are complete, all that's left is to build the rooftop.

It's amazing how the development of Discovery Green has brought on an entirely new area/district/neighborhood within downtown Houston. Things like this never fail to amaze me.

I hate to say this, but I am not liking the design. It does not fit Houston's skyline. The building should be more modern.

To each his own, I suppose.

It's not really my favorite design, but if OPP were given a more modern design, it would totally miss the point of why the current building is rising the way it is. A more-traditional design, overlooking a park with retail (grocers, etc) in the base. Something a bit more familiar and home-y, rather than businesslike. Let modernity reside in the units for this one.

That said, this is the great part about watching the east side of DT build up. It more than likely will be somewhat of a mix of styles in the long run, given the designs of OPP, Embassy Suites & Discovery Tower.

I never thought I'd be saying it given what was built when I was growing up, but there's already enough "modern" in the mix, Downtown and citywide, IMO.

I saw that when I was in the park today! Considering the fact that the bulk of that section section of framework went up late Tuesday or Early Wednesday... wow! Quickness.
