It is the last thing it needs, but it still needs it. Right now the rental units greatly outnumber the hotel rooms in RN, and even though the streetcar will give a way for tourists to spend their $$ in RN, a hotel spotted here and there won't hurt.
It is kind of ugly, but thats kind of the normal "look" here in SA.
I was more concerned with how it met the street, the amount of parking (hopefully not too much) and how it would affect the sidewalk traffic. It also seems that the space for retail that would be along 9th, is not a hotel restaurant but just a "lease space" which is good because it leaves it open to meet the demands of the neighborhood as it changes and not a fixed tenant. The space has good access from the street and river level.
SKW: I think that the "old" plan had 9th rerouted straight to St. Mary's and that's how that other .7 acre came from.
