This is Toronto in 5 years. The best way to get older quickly is to trade away 1st rounders.

So in your world all the picks outside of the first round are useless?

They traded away 2 1st rounders - hardly anything to panic over. Plus, like I said - they've got some young prospects who will crack in the lineup in the next few years anyway. They won't be an old team for at least 10 years.

So sad to.see Luongo retire. I hope he keeps in touch with hockey and keeps tweeting. Always good for laughs and great play. Hats off to a great career..

You guys should have gotten past the first round this year you're losing pieces and your door is closing.

At some point a team has to focus on right now and not about 5 years from now. You aren't going to win a championship by letting top players sign elsewhere and keeping all your picks. There comes a time when you have to put all your chips on the table and take a shot. Toronto has been building for right now for a while, and it may actually pay off. They need to free up cap space to sign Marner, and if that takes a first round or two to sweeten the deal for another team, so be it. If it doesn't work, these top players will fetch a very nice return and you can get all those first round picks back and start building again.

New Jersey is doing this right now and i'm loving it. Going all-in for win now. Hopefully the NJ/NYR rivalry is back in full swing in 2-3 years.

Happy to see the Canucks hit with the $3M penalty, was such a dumb contract to sign a goalie to.

Lou should be a hall of famer on his first year of eligibility though, outstanding career!

With Dim Jim the door will never open in Vancouver. I swear the guy is trying to go for it and rebuild at the same time. Sound strategy....to assist the other teams in the conference that is!

Jim's got further troubles ahead with Luongo's retirement. Nearly 3.5 million in cap space gone for the next 3 seasons. It just gets better and better for the Canucks.

Curious to see how Smith fits in here, clearly a bandaid.

Enjoy Talbot, pure class.

Smith was shit to start the year last year, but was lights out down the stretch and into the playoffs, if he stays healthy he's awesome.

Not sure what to think of Talbot, he's had some great seasons, but his numbers are all in decline over the last few seasons. Here's hoping he can turn it around with a fresh start and an exciting team.

Have the oilers ever had a puck playing goalie? SMith is dangerous and with a mcdavid to pass the puck to, could be scary.
