I noticed the Marigold on Ellice has also closed, not sure when.

Jollibee at Northgate appears nearing completion.

That Marigold has been closed for at least a year.

Was the Marigold on Ellice even ever open

If I recall the timing correctly I was there in 2015/early 2016 and it closed not too long after.

We never had a horserace. We only just got craft beer! Winnipeg has been all molson/coors/etc since its inception... craft cocktails and beer only just arrived and we already have people talking down to the "snobs" who are willing to pay for a good product.

We're a solid 10 years behind a normal city (never mind an exceptional one) when it comes to drinking, but fortunately a lot of new establishments have started out strong in the last couple of years

I'm so amped for this!

Was at tipsy cow for lunch. Great burger, surprisingly good Caesar salad. A relatively low stocked bar, but the cocktail menu (and ingredients) were actually quite solid. Nothing too creative but it appears to be a good execution of the classics (Martini, Negroni, Whisky sours, etc).

As opposed to talking down to Rickerds red drinkers?

You talked down expensive cocktails...? I was just going tit for tat.

I was more illustrating that Rickard's Red, whether it's good or bad, is by no means an upmarket product. Yet our lack of quality beer/drinking culture could have fooled people into thinking it was.

That's how badly we need more fancy drink places, even if they're a scary $12 (and the ingredients certainly worth it).

I have Labatt Blue and Labatt Lite in my fridge. I also have an import that someone gave me, Lezajsk, but it basically tastes like a somewhat stronger version of Blue.

Stone Cold Stunners and crack. Kapow!

But seriously, if you make it home with a king can you've failed at drinking.

But actually seriously, cheap beer has its place. It's the equally mediocre tasting but more expensive macros I have a problem with. Anyway, I'm not going to lie, I can't afford to drink craft cocktails all night, every night. That's why I drink them during the day.

I was impressed by Tipsy Cow. Their menu needs work and they need to iron out some service kinks, but the food was delicious and I got to drink some well made whiskey sours for 5 bucks each.

As for burger week, make sure you visit Sous Sol. They had my winner last year, hands down.

I talked to the owner and asked if the dinner menu was available during lunch... which it is upon request, so that increases the options.

Despite knowing as much about everything as I do, I don't actually normally throw advice around. But I told him that the lunch office crowd, could, but might not come downtown for burgers from East St Paul or River Heights (they're taking their wives to Peasant or Mitchell Block etc, normally), and they would definitely order the fancy burger options. He seemed really receptive and cool about it.

As far as burger week, I didn't even know sous sol particpated last year! They might be my favourite spot in the city so I will make sure to visit. Burger week (and Negroni week) is easily one of my favourite weeks of the year!
