This picture is from April, so there's been more progress since then.

No it won't. The title to the thread is inaccurate. This project has been severely cut back. This building will be only 26 floors and probably in the low 300 foot range.

I've updated the title. I didn't want to put in a height figure for tower 2 since it seems we don't have a definitive one and I don't want to use an estimate/guess as an official height.

Due to the Sky Harbor International. FAA won't let do it. Because it was height restrictions. Only 30 or 40 floors, but not more than 50 or 60 floors.

Is there some general height limitation covering all of Downtown Phoenix due to the proximity to the airport, or is this dealt with on a case-by-case basis? I'm just wondering if I can ever expect any new towers to break the plateau of the current skyline.

I imagine that if there is a height limit in effect, what we can expect in the future is a still low but broader skyline of many high-rise residential (a la San Diego), and perhaps burgeoning high-rise areas like the Midtown/Central Avenue corridor will see the tallest towers eventually break through. It will certainly give Phoenix a distinctive profile...add the Pin Tower to that and you've got yourself a regonizable American city!

Yes, there are FAA height restrictions. The airport is about 4 miles east southeast of downtown so the southern part of downtown is more limited. The farther north and into mid-town the less restrictions there are. This map shows height restrictions above sea level. Downtown Phoenix sits at about 1,100 foot elevation so where it says 1,700' the height limit is really about 600'.

This is looking north up Central Avenue. The building looks a lot better from the other angles where it has a few angles and is more slender. Only two more floors left to go up.
