Wow now the church bahahahah what is CBS our deep south? ... since when does the Church get involved with businesses? especially LEGAL ones?

the comments are overwhelmingly against the church having ANY input

It's crazy it's like they think some brothel was opened that suck young children in and sell them into the sex trade hahaha

Clergy not Happy with CBS Strip Club

Quote:
The Ministerial Association of Conception Bay South is urging residents to boycott a new business that has recently opened in Foxtrap. When Siren's Cabaret, Strip Club and Restaurant opened their doors in late October, they were met with many angry residents who felt the business was out of place in a town that is home to many young families.
Major Lorne Pritchett of the Salvation Army chairs the Ministerial Association of CBS, and he says the business brings nothing good to the community. Pritchett says, unfortunately, there is no legal action that they can take. Instead, Pritchett says he is asking residents to boycott the business and "starve it out of town."
Pritchett says they will continue to look into ways to remove the business from Foxtrap. Major Pritchett says they will be asking MHAs associated with the town to ask government why someone doesn't have jurisdiction over businesses like that.

as many of the comments refer to.. "Those who live in glass houses.."

All these types of stories are swiftly making "young families" a dirty phrase to me.

I visited Beclin today for East Port Properties. I like these - they're light years beyond everything else in our industrial parks. And once the tenants are in and the doors/windows are added, they look great!

Mount Pearl Multiplex a Boost for Region

Quote:
The largest capital construction project ever undertaken in Mount Pearl will be a huge boost for the entire region according to the city's Mayor, Randy Simms. The Multiplex, which will cost 32-million dollars, will open in 2014. Mayor Simms says it will house a new 25-metre, eight-lane swimming pool, a leisure pool, an enlarged fitness centre, three multi-purpose rooms, and a walking and running track. He says space will also be made available to ensure the arts community has a home.
Mayor Simms says there will be some retail space in the Multiplex. He noted that a decision has not yet been made on what will happen to the building housing the old swimming pool.
Simms says the 14-million dollar contribution from the provincial government was critical in getting the project approved. He expects to see residents from all over the region availing of the new facility.

You really do not realize the amount of construction happening in the Kenmount area .. I was up behind my work just behind pippy place and they are constructing various new commercial buildings as well as all the stuff happening at Kelsey and the hotels (one I highlighted isnt started yet but proposed) and the highway and the subdivisions as well as the countless extensions of buildings on Kenmount Rd itself .. AND stuff that's happening in the avalon mall

Google Maps is never all that up to date. The Bow in Calgary seems to be barely above grade, which was quite some time ago as well.

What hotel is proposed for the west side of the highway in your figure?

The city council agenda of Nov 5th has an item as follows -
5. Proposed hotel development – Civic no. 227-229-245 Kenmount Road – Ward 4
Applicant is Pacific Coast Architecture Inc. for Northwood Properties
Corporation.
The Committee considered a memorandum dated October 22, 2012 from the Department
of Planning dealing with an application for a 6-storey hotel with a height of 23.9 metres
in the Commercial Highway (CH) Zone, where the maximum allowable height limit is 15
metres.
The subject property is situated on the south side of Kenmount Road, approximately
midway between Kelsey Drive and Pippy Place, and is adjacent to the Team Gushue
Highway, being encompassed by one of the highway’s exit ramps. Several buildings on
the property, including Metro Place, the office building used by the former St. John’s
Metropolitan Area Board, will be removed to accommodate the proposed hotel.

As an aside, the blue line for the highway in the map, isn't accurate. The TG extension turns at the intersection of the blue line and the arrow and goes along the line of the arrow till it crosses Blackmarsh at the city limits.

There's also two more residential areas proposed - the entire area of the blue-line-arrow, ie north of Coventry way to New Penneywell Road and the area north of Blackmarsh at the intersection of Frecker Dr. (lacks water & sewer at the moment).
Details in the city council agenda of Sept 10 2012.

There's also a connection to Team Gushue extension, not sure if it on or off ramp, but there's been little detail of this and how it intersects with the modified Blackmarsh Road.

Paradise rd between Milton Rd and Janals road should begin paving late this week or early next week. For those of you not familure, culverts have been put in to replace the ditches on both sides of the road in an effort to widen the road to 3 lanes. Sidewalk will be installed on one side as well. Certainly needed in the area.

By the way you can request that google update their sat imagery.

Early in the new year, the city of Mount Pearl will start raising steel for the largest capital project taken in the city's history. Work will continue in 2013 on a $32-million multiplex centre that will be adjoining the Reid Community Centre. As of now, the project is 20 per cent complete, with the majority of the work to do completed in 2013. Mayor Randy Simms says the centre should be up and running by 2014. Simms says it is by far the biggest project undertaken by the city. Simms says the centre will have two swimming pools, one will be competitive, the other will be a training pool.

The Town of Paradise will soon be home to a brand new twin rink arena. Mayor Ralph Wiseman says a committee compromised of the town council, municipal affairs and consultants, intends to choose the successful bidding construction company in February. I posted these in the main thread mistakenly without looking at this thread, here's another to add to that list

New Town Hall for CBS

Quote:
The Town of CBS has experienced growing pains in the past few years. With that has come an increase in town staff and services. CBS Mayor Woody French says one of the reasons for the new town hall is to pull all the various departments together in the one location.

French also is also enthusiastic about the new Manuels River Hibernia Interpretation Centre, a co-operative effort that involves not only CBS but also the River's Historical Society and the Rotary Club.
