Has anyone heard anything about the Topsail Road/ Holbrook Avenue project? I believe it's another stale Nolan and Hall project, but I'm not sure. I do hope it gets underway, those folks have a good track record,

Edit: oops. It's actually "The Newfoundland Real Estate Investment Corp" - not sure what that is...

Sometimes it is just a matter of getting land rezoned "up", then the land might be resold, and the proposal might change. I have no idea about this particular project, but just speaking generally.

[QUOTE=niccanning;5858532]Has anyone heard anything about the Topsail Road/ Holbrook Avenue project? [QUOTE]

There are some concept pics in the Main St. John's thread I think. It is a string of 4 or 5 condos I believe 3 and 6 stories high.

I don't think it will go ahead until after the West End High School is built (which is going in behind it) because in order for a development of that size to be constructed it requires a significant upgrade to the water and sewer in the area. Fortunately for the developer, this is the same upgrade that is also required for the High School. So I think the developer is waiting for the province to pay for the upgrade first and then construct after.

Plans unveiled for Southlands community centre

Quote:
People in the Southlands area of St. John's got a preview of their new community centre on Wednesday evening.

Residents of the residential development — which is partially surrounded by Mount Pearl — have been asking for a place to hold community events for more than ten years.

Steve Manuel said that such a centre is needed for families in the area.

"There's a lot of young kids, young families just starting out, so it'll be a great thing to have there," he said.

Right now, people in Southlands go to Mount Pearl for most of their recreation activities. Resident Michelle Miskell said the new centre will help people develop a better sense of where they belong.

"In order to do anything as a community or as a family, we use the Mount Pearl services, and yet we're paying St. John's taxes. So I think it will make people feel more positive about their community," she said.

Architect Ron Fougere, who presented the design, said it was "extremely well received," but said that the plans will be tweaked to allow for more public seating and better use of the space.

Construction of the building is expected to start next year.

The new Cabot Lincoln dealership on Kenmount Road finally has some steel erected.

It seems that way! But nothing wrong with modernizing! Next on the my list of dealerships to replace would be the mighty Avalon Ford, and City Honda. Actually, speaking of honda, I was driving by and I thought it looked like they were prepping for an expansion. Just a glace, but looked like they were getting ready to construct an addition. It would be nice!

The Kenmount Road/Hill area is going to look ALOT different in 20 years!

They should just move to Kenmount Road like every other car dealership. (except for O'Neil Motors). The little rinky-dink building Tucker has doesn't really fit with the ACURA image does it?

That's good increasing density in paradise is good

I always thought that this spot right here would be great for say two skinny talls (residential highrises) right across from gas station doctors office drug stores tim hortons grocery store and banks

and it's right between the outer ring road and Kenmount road and right in front of an industrial/ comercial park (jobs) one of them could even be offices
