How many states have you been to?

When I was a kid I was amazed that my dad had been to all 50 states. I've been working on it ever since and am at 41. Only 9 to go (AL, MS, LA, ND, MT, CO, NV, AK, HI)

My personal criteria for counting a state as "visited" involves at very least getting out of the car somewhere.

[I misspelled "states" in the poll header, so if a Mod could fix that for me, many thanks]

17 - it may be 18, it was an overnight trip and I can't remember if I actually touched North Carolina ever.

I've been to 47. I have never been to N or S Dakota, or New Mexico.

It's been that way for about the last 15 years, for me.

45. I lack the Dakotas, Wyoming, Montana, and Alaska. I'll try to knock those out by the end of June. I'll hop on Alaska airlines out of Seattle when I have some time off, and try to visit Anchorage, Juneau, and Fairbanks, and hopefully a few cities far north. Other than that I'll have to jumpseat on Great Lakes for some of the others, and Allegiant out of Mesa-Gateway. It helps that I fly for free.

49, I lack just Hawaii. I got to travel extensively on business when I was in my 20's, and that helped tremendously. I also got to stay in different parts of the country for 3-4 weeks at a time, really picking up the nuances of the locality.

Same #. The closest to me that I'm missing is New Jersey. I've seen Nebraska, Washington and Montana but from a couple of km away but never been there. Favourites are probably VT, NH, ME and OR and least favourite is probably FL.

Countries: UK (3 out of the 4 constituant parts), Eire, Canada, US, Puerto Rico, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany (west only), Switzerland, Austria, Liechenstein, Italy, Monaco, Spain, Slovenia, South Africa, Norway, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland.

California (native state), Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Colorado, Missouri, Virginia, DC, Maryland, New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, so 11. If I take out layovers (Missouri, Colorado, and Nevada), I'm down to 8 plus DC.

I'd been to all 48 contiguous states when I reached 16 years old. I'm now 42 years old. Alaska and Hawaii may not come for awhile!! As far as getting out of the car, I'm not sure about a few states. North Dakota, Delaware, and Rhode Island. I've been to NYC a few times, (I was born in Hackensack NJ) but I have never been in upstate New York.

5. Nebraska
6. North Dakota
7. South Dakota
8. Montana
9. Hawaii

I have also been to ten countries so far.

I basically haven't been to New England, plus Alaska and Hawaii, plus the far northern plains and far northern rockies.

Never been to:

North Dakota
Wisconsin
Florida
Hawaii

Should probably be able to cross Wisconsin off my list in the next few months, maybe Florida as well. I think North Dakota and Hawaii are quite a ways down the road!
