The building on the left (443 South Los Angeles Street) was the Los Angeles Mission from 1949 until January 1992. There's a short history here. LAPL has this 1959 picture.

And you're right, FW's Excelsior Laundry post was great. I like that he also pointed out the Excelsior Barn on the 1906 Sanborn map.

I figured there were a good number of homes in the 1910 shot still standing - great to know those two in particular have survived. Wish the white house in the center with the tower could've made it. I was driving around taking photos in Lincoln Heights not long ago and snapped one of another survivor in the shot. I've circled it in red in this closeup:

Back then, the 76 Station was a Signal Station, selling something called 'UPTANE' gasoline.
And the mid-century building across the street (Santa Monica Blvd.) was home to W.J. German Inc., Eastman Professional Motion Picture Films.

I've never heard of W.J. German Inc. Is anyone familiar with it?

As for the Landmarks of Los Angeles book, that must have been where I first heard of the homes being moved from Olive, as I have owned that book for many years. And hey, Forget's house looks like it's finally getting some proper Victorian porch railings put back in! May we not Forget (pun intended) how the porch looked as recently as last year:

It was GW who provided the history, the noir and the Forget's original address on Olive which the people who live over on S Bonnie Brae found extremely entertaining.

The Forget had gotten into terrible shape as one can see here, but the person who bought it before a friend of my daughter's moved in has redone the floors and replaced the bathrooms and kitchens. There's no original detail inside anymore, but at least it's not scary. The new porch railing and some promised landscaping will help immensely. The porches really make that neighborhood.

Maybe they sell horse meat for dogs. We used to have it delivered to our home in the 1950s for our dog.

Cheval or horse meat is banned for human consumption in the USA. A 2007 Time magazine article about horse meat brought in from Canada to the United States characterized the meat as sweet, rich, super-lean, oddly soft meat, and closer to beef than venison. That's a good description. I've eaten horse meat but I'd avoid it now. Its a misdemeanor to slaughter a horse in CA for human consumption.
