I agree, speaking of that I hope whatever ends up at the Chicago Spire site is considerably taller than 1,100' (the current but rejected proposal).

Yea that was hideous...

If the insider information is correct, I'm not sure why they would still be following through with the design process (although it was from October) if they didn't plan on building anything.

Got a chance to chat it with Reilly last week and asked him about this project. He said there was some re-working to the lower level loading areas being done, and I guess a few other things.

He didn't say, but I'm guessing it'll go before plan commission maybe in a few months.

I asked if there were any height changes and he said No.

It would be amazing if this started construction before the end of the current cycle

That sounds like really good news... I think?

^^^ In that case, how long does a thumbs up from the Plan Commission last? Forever? A couple years? If it's approved in 2019 but won't start until 2022, can a different city government in 2021 say "wait a minute"? Not to concern troll, just curious.

Things can change though, obviously if approved, and the market is good, I don't see why they'd keep waiting around.

Unless there's a reason for waiting three years?

According to the developer they are shooting for Q4 2019 or Q1 2020 to begin construction. Until we get more information maybe we should stick with that time frame speculation isn't helpful (see cube debate).

Looks like you are reading an older curbed article. Here is a more recent article from April of last year stating Q4 2019 or Q1 2020 and the tower itself will take three years, not the renovation.

Check the first post of this thread. A possible late 2019 start was discussed when the project was announced.

Yeah, I don't remember ever seeing a 3 year reno timeline

Ran into somebody from Golub at a networking event last week and they seemed pretty confident in a construction start during this market cycle. I just wish I wasn't so drunk to the point I couldn't think of any worthwhile questions to ask him ; _ ;

Great news that it should start this cycle!
Probably some of the most obvious questions would have been if there were any design or height changes. Save that in case you run into them again.

What WON'T you drink to, Steely?

Seriously though, this is very good news, even if it's just someone's uncorroborated word right now.

It's exciting to hear that Vista may not be the tallest skyscraper to be built during this construction cycle! A supertall of this height would be major news even in NYC.

Yeah, hopefully there won't be a height reduction, which happened to several recent projects in the city.
